General Tech What did you work on Today?

If you've owned a Jeep Cherokee, you know that it's only a matter of time until the bucket seat frames fail. Driver side seat base failure is more common than passenger side, due to frequency of use, but the same inferior welding process is used on both by the factory. I've repaired several of...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

I’ve been trying to track down the low speed rhythmic clunk clunk sound in my front end to no avail. I finally pulled the ARB, hoping for worn/broken spider gears as the cause. No smoking gun here, the wear is all uniform for a 16yr old diff, center pin diameters measure .0688, spider inner...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

I've filled the voids on my XJ engine mounts with urethane, which reduces the amount that the rubber can stretch. Definitely extends their lifespan. Seems to be a decent compromise VS running a harder durometer mount which transfers more vibration to the chassis. My stroker is getting these...

    How would YOU build a highway-worthy, ultra-cheap 4x4 on 35s?

Great bang for the buck here!

Morbid question: are Viking funerals illegal?

My brother and I had a similar conversation last month. His logic is how often do folks visit a gravesite of their deceased relative? What's the ROI value for a casket/vault, plot of dirt and stone marker? Cremation and spreading ashes over your favorite scenic overlook, trail or campsite has...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

I found this vintage thermometer in one of the sheds on our ranch and was pleasantly surprised to see that the bulb was intact and measured temperature accurately. It had been slathered with some random white paint earlier in its life, so I carefully attempted to remove this with Goof-Off and...

    How would YOU build a highway-worthy, ultra-cheap 4x4 on 35s?

WJ knuckles/brakes, OTK steering, rotated inner-C's to correct lost caster from lifting/eliminate front driveline vibration. I've done these mods to my XJ and it's rock solid at 75-80mph, stops great and has zero bumpsteer.

General Tech What did you work on Today?

I’ve come to the realization that this new stroker engine isn’t going to build itself and the mysterious disappearance of coolant that is occurring in my 238,000 mi 4.0L is unsustainable. Crank bearing spec range is .0010-.0025, all 7 landed in the .0015-.0020 range👍🏼 New 12 weight Scat 258...

    Wanted 12v air compressor

My son and brother both run the EZ-Flate MOAB 10.5 cfm compressor, it seems to do the job well and airups from 15-35 are under 2 minutes per tire. You can reworked the supplied air line to connect to 2 tires at a time, so efficiency can be gained. Definitely quicker to air up than my ViAir 450c...

This was the opposite issue, but the Tstat was only about a year old, so garbage is a good description.

General Tech What did you work on Today?

I had the occasion to troubleshoot my brothers overheating ‘18 JKRU last Saturday as we were exiting the Dome Plateau trail. I recalled that the Tstat is integrated into the housing, which seals to the block with an O-ring. Being 30-ish miles from Moab and replacement parts, my Macgyver...
