I completed what is perhaps the most dull, unfulfilling home project today. The insulation in our basement is garbage, especially in the areas where the main floor cantilevers out and has soffit underneath. Lots of cold coming in.
The insulation was thin and fit terribly:

So I got some R30, cut it to fit and crammed it in there real nice. I even added the stupid rod things to hold it in place nicely.

Then I spent way too much time improving the insulation and adjusting the plastic sheet between the utility room and the rest of the basement. That combustion air coming in is ffffreezing. No pics cause it’s boring. Either way, yay me, I guess. Now I’m gonna take 37 showers cause even though I was all covered up I’m itchy!!!

Installed a new higher CFM bathroom fan and faucet today. I’ve likely mentioned it a time or 57 but I get no personal satisfaction from home improvement project. I want the place functional and not something the neighbors abhor but beyomd that it’s just the place we store things and sleep. I was avoiding the Mrs chore list so badly I risked pneumonia and rode my dirt bike to the car wash. With snow falling I sprayed off the mud and gave it a good wipe down. Numb fingers were less agonizing than a damn faucet replacement :D

Ironically I grew up working construction off/on with my dad and brother(s). It's honest work, pays well and requires skill, all things I appreciate. Now I generally call them when it exceeds my skill or apathy level. We did have a remodel company do our basement last year, good guys.

I'll definitely keep you in mind. Is that your future gig @jeeper ?

Our house didn’t come with a door on the master bath. I’ve never had an issue with it because with the glass shower I can chill on the bed and watch the lady shower. It’s hard to be mad at that. Buuuut since the she insists on keeping the house at 64 degrees in the winter I admit it’s a little chilly in there at times.

It was kind of a pain but hey it’s up there and now just needs paint and caulk. The real important take-away is that I talked her out of a super expensive sliding door and a fancy custom door with glass. Oh and I used this project as an excuse to buy some new tools. That’s always a perk!

Glad to see I am not the only one working on baseboards. My basement is done finally. I am now working on the upstairs. I like to paint mine first, install, caulk, fill brad nails and touch up. Why I do this you are thinking, I'm not good at touchup when carpet is near. Carpet will be replaced when baseboards are done but who the hell knows when that will be. Too many activities with grandkids and kids. I could pay to have it done and have even offered someone on here to pay that person to do it but he works his ass off and has his own distractions when not at work. It will done soon or at least my wife hopes so.

Lighting in our master was legit just a stupid fan light. Even with bedside lamps it was still dark in there. I spent some time in the attic, fishing some wire and got some LED “wafer” lights in today. It’s amazing the difference it made!

So after my wife nagging me for 2-1/2 years, I finally replaced the stupid undermount kitchen sink that decided to detach itself from the counter-top. I figured that re-attaching the old sink or even a new undermount would be temporary at best so I opted to go with a new drop-in sink.

My inital choice was white porceline on cast iron which I ordered from Home Depot. When it didn't show up after a week they re-ordered it. When that one didn't show up they checked and discovered they were out of stock. Next we ordered a white quartz composite sink from amazon and after 5 days a black one showed up. Sent that one back and finally got a white one.

Holy crap granite is a pain to work with. I went through two 4-1/2" diamond grinder disks and a couple of diamond blades for a jigsaw.

3D printed dust collector shroud for the angle grinder.

This grinder shroud was amazing. With this thing on and my shop vac hooked up there was almost no dust. The couple minutes I had to grind without nearly trashed the kitchen.
