Does anyone on here do pest control? This could be a longshot

Just buy a dozen BB guns and sell tickets to your shooting gallery to the neighborhood kids. They will get great entertainment, the parents will get relief from the kids and they will most certainly reduce the pest population significantly.

Gophers rarely show their faces above ground, otherwise I’d be in

I never would have guessed this coworker would have let a cat stick around. He had been a k9 officer with sandy back in the day and had two german shepards when the cat showed up. I’m guessing it’s a “what are you doing to pull your weight” kind of situation. He had worked so hard for so long to get rid of the rodents with little success.

Thats interesting that the insurance would be so difficult. I did think of the two kids that died a few years back after a pest company sprayed or left out poison at their house. That situation has keep me away from spraying and or hiring a company. I guess we really don’t have pest issues, other than mosquitoes.

Yeah the insurance issues are based solely on years of experience- so when you say we have 8 months of experience they’re like ummmmm…

Either way, we only intend to do traps and non-toxic spraying for quite some time. The insurance guy actually brought up the girls that died in Layton, like you mentioned. That story was ridiculous though, the guy was just absolutely negligent IIRC.

We got the HOA contract and the first month’s check is in the mail. So that’s cool, I guess.

On a way more exciting note we decided to start working on the vole population and have had some pretty quick success. 4 down so far, only focusing on one line of their holes. This guy got double-trapped. It was not a good day for him 🤣

We also got a new camera setup to monitor The Altar (where we put the carcasses) and had 3 voles and a gopher on it last night but somehow the camera missed a critter grabbing the whole lot. Dammit! I really want to see the fox’s young out hunting.

So I just had a lady call about ground squirrels, like 2 miles from me. I think it's probably gophers and she just doesn't know what she's talking about... but I decided to see what USU says for controlling them anyways (they have some helpful info for a lot of pests).

I don't know who made these documents but I like them.

The rifle pointed at the live one in a trap made me LOL

What did you do with the squirrel?

I’ve got a mess of acorns I can bring over if you want to keep it.
I let it go a handful of miles away in some trees off Bacchus. They’re cute and all but I’ve read about the havoc they can cause.

There’s a high chance that squirrel will be back. Pretty sure they’re like pigeons, they can and will travel back to their home nesting area.

Somebody my dad knows spray painted a pink spot on the tail of one, released it 4-5 miles away, and a couple weeks later it was back.

It would have to cross a few really busy streets and Mtn View corridor but maybe.

I did catch the neighborhood stray cat in that same trap and released it 7ish miles away on Bacchus and it’s back again…

If you take stray cats to the wj animal shelter they will "fix" them then put a notch in their ear to indicate the work has been done. My dad's neighbor had been feeding strays and accumulated quite a herd of them. My dad caught over 10 of them with a city supplied trap.

The TNR program is the biggest sham ever. Strays should be killed. They are no different than raccoons or other vicious and harmful animals.

Yup, they just release them back into our neighborhood and that’s a total joke. They’re the worst invasive species if you ask me. If I wanted a cat in my yard, I’d get a cat. I’m pissed because I finally caught that one and was going to take it 30 min away but then my son had a friend coming over so I only made it like 10 min away. The night I saw it on the camera again I was like no f’n way. I mean it is just a black cat but I believe it’s the same one.
