I remember as a kid being at Yellowstone and walking on the boardwalk in one of geyser basins when one of features, labeled as a spring, erupted, hitting us with steam and water. Luckily not dangerously hot.

We reported it to the rangers who said they had no record of previous eruptions.

On a future trip we noticed the boardwalk had been re-routed and it was then labeled as a geyser.
