General Tech What did you work on Today?

Little more work on Todd’s Jeep. The driver side exhaust was hanging too low and interfered with the new spring hanger position. I pulled the ancient exhaust and used my rusty metal welding magic to shorten it.

Ready to return to duty 1.75” higher.

Then I started the process to figure out what and where the shackles would end up looking like.

Without weight…

So I cut 1.25” off of the frame horns. I figured I would have to do this, so no surprise.

With the shortened horns and shackle hangers tacked in place, but no weight on the springs…

I think that’s where they’ll end up. Gotta pull it all off and fabricobble some kind of tie plate and bumper thinger, then add the shackle hangers back on.

Also, I ran the AC in the garage all night last night so I could get out in the garage early. This worked quite well, and it was almost too cold in there at around 10 am.

This temp is a little higher than actual room temperature. It hangs on my south wall, which gets pretty roast in full sun.

He's like a mountain-bike-building Luke Skywalker.

The force is definitely strong with this one.

Sooooo.... super slack with 170mm travel fork??? 😉

We are guessing we went from 74ish to 70ish, plus whatever changing from a rigid fork to a ~130mm suspension fork will do. Won't really know until I get it put together, which will probably be a while still.

Did a SCUBA refresher course tonight after work. Was rusty at first on the gear assembly but all the in-water stuff came back real quick. Haven’t been on a dive in over 10 years so it was absolutely worth the refresher.

I love that!
I'm just a couple dives away from my advanced and night certifications. There's a great little dive shop in Bountiful If anyone wants to come rent equipment with me, we can go out to Blue Lake and get some dives in.

I worked as a dive master at the University of Utah when I was in college. Probably have about 50 dives in Blue Lake with students taking the class over 3 or so years I did it. It was a lot of fun. It’s probably been 15 years since I made any bubbles.

Test fitting some wheels/hubcaps today. I think these will look better than the crusty wagon wheels. Probably going to need a 1” spacer in the rear to clear tires but we’ll see.
There’s something about listening to 50’s rock ‘n roll while working on an old rig that makes you feel like a hotrodder even though you’re totally not. 😂
