Anyone used Steel-It?

So I played around with this stuff a bit today, and it's pretty interesting. It went over nasty steel just fine, and while it looked like hammerite while drying it ended up even and flat. The color is pretty close to the Ford argent color they used on wheels and bumpers.
It comes out of the can way too fast, you need to really finesse the trigger to get a smooth application. It also stinks. It smells like a portable toilet in the middle of summer.
I'll probably order a few cans after I finish the bumper on my F250, as long as these sample pieces hold up ok.

I ordered my sample several years ago when Steel-It was just entering the offroad scene. Even then it took several months to get the sample. I'm sure it is even worse now that so many people are using it.
 
I finally ordered 4 cans of Steel-It for a project, got mine on Amazon, 2 day delivery and free shipping!

It seems to spray nicely, I need to protect the inside of a truss before I weld it in place.

I was going to tape off the edges that I need to weld and powder coat the pieces, but there is a lot of weld area and cleaning up powder coating before welding sucks.

At least with the Steel-It, if I have any overspray it won't contaminate the welds.

Is anybody aware of a new Steel it alternative?

I was thinking I saw something recently where the can had a sort of graffiti look to it, and was around half of Steel it price, but I can’t seem to find it now.


Edit: found it, alloy armor. I swear they were hocking it as an affordable alternative to SI, but it’s still around $20/can. That’s lame.
Any other worthy options before I order a case of Steel it?

Relative to Steel-It at ~$35 a can, $20 is actually pretty affordable (still to expensive though). I have had that Seymour equivalent in my amazon cart for a while and am interested to try it out as it's $16/can.
 
I have 3 cans of Seymore in my garage, that was supposed to be orange, but turned out to be more red, so I didn't use it.

What was the name of that color? I ordered a Safety Red to test the color, but the orange might be what I want, if it is more red.
 
I'm good with whomevery comes to Orem and picks them up. They've been sitting in my garage for 6 months and I'm not going to use them.
 
I've had a couple cans of Steel-It clog part way thru, which is frustrating considering the cost of $32/can. I usually shake the hell out of the can, trying to mix the solids but apparently it's not enough

I've been hearing good things about Seymour Stainless Blast, it's was mentioned in this thread previously. It's a similar product at half the cost at $15-16/ea. Anyone tried the Seymour yet? I might pick up a few cans.

Bought a couple of these cans and have been using them, so far they're impressive. I don't know that it's quite "Steel It" quality, but it's pretty damn good.
