Wanting to get a tent to live on my truck. Low profile, hard candy shell, quick to deploy and put away, 3-4 person size if available.

What is recommended?

3-4 people means it will be a big one, especially if it’s a hard shell. What truck will it
Go on?

I recommend visiting a few stores they have them on display where you can climb in and around them. Expedition Superstore was really helpful for that when we were looking.

Three to four people in a RTT means the least aggressive people are getting other people in their faces all night.

Eff that... Leave two of them at home. Or get a real tent or. Or something...

I have a large Smitty-bilt that I have put myself, my wife, my son and my grandson it several times. Yes it’s a little tight but very manageable and actually not a bad sleep. My grandson ends up sideways or upside down so the size of the bed really doesn’t matter. He is 9. We use ours all the time. I like the tent and I had the cover zipper break and they sent me a new cover.

Come borrow it to see if a RTT is for you.

That’s probably possible with the tent we have, it’s a 23zero Armadillo A3. The hard shell is aluminum. We are very happy with it. It’s a little large for the Gladiator 5’ bed, and it would overhang the rear quite a bit if I mounted it lower. I chose to mount it higher so I could move it forward. I didn’t notice any negative effects from that choice, but I think it looks better when mounted lower. The A2 fits our truck better, but it’s 16” narrower inside.

My rtt is 55" wide and while I could technically get me and my two boys in there my 9 year old has no interest in playing that game and would always sweet talk Grandpa into getting a bed in their trailer.
