Insurance Home/Auto/Etc. Who do you like?

Mine went down from $263 to $248 when it renewed this month. Two drivers, three cars all full coverage through Progressive. Nothing's changed on my end that I'm aware of? Maybe a speeding ticket fell off or something?

Is it really beneficial to bundle home with auto for the discount or is that just marketing bullshit? I shopped around for Home Ins two years ago but just bundled the vehicles thinking I was getting a deal without shopping for vehicle prices. I'm starting to think it's just marketing BS for the first year to two. I think I'm gonna split companies so it's easier (in my mind) to just shop plans every once in a while.

The say there's a "discount" but I don't see said discount on a line item.

Our home ins is going up another $600 this year. Not sure on the auto yet.

Edit: I'm through Farmers, currently. I beginning to think they are the Farmers and the crops are the money in my pocket.

My Safeco rates jumped up $75, to $249/month back in June when it auto renewed. I pay monthly, since I'm poor and can't afford the upfront cost.

Anyways, I've switched to Progressive. Two cars, one with full coverage, one liability, new monthly is $124, Safeco was $249/month. I figured cutting it in half was a pretty decent discount for the same coverage.

I like to stay with one company as long as I can and build a relationship, but after a couple years of steady rate hikes Allstate was making it clear that they weren't interested anymore. We went to a couple different agents to get a range of quotes, State Farm and Progressive came in the lowest. The interwebs tell me State Farm generally gets better ratings for customer service, so that's where we went.

And yeah, definitely go see an agent. When we tried to get a quote directly it wasn't much better than what Allstate was already charging us. Going through an agent we've more than cut our insurance bill in half.

I used Neil Dastrup in Provo, been going through them for the last 6 years. She asked a few questions that surprisingly lowered the quote as well, such as my highest level of education, between me having a college degree, and my wife attending at least some college, it dropped the price from $140 to $124 per month. Also have zero accidents or claims in the last 5 years, so that helps too I'm sure.

I know a handful of people that have jumped to progressive recently and I’m about ready to myself. Bear River is no longer the cheap option by a long shot.
I’ve had my motorcycle under progressive and they cut my rate this year from $800/yr to $400/yr for not filling any claims the past few years. I haven’t filed a claim with Bear river in well over a decade and my rates just keep going up. I think it’s time to jump ship.

We are currently on Farmer's Bureau after talking with a local agent and being unexpectedly dropped like a hot coal in winter by Allstate. Might be shopping again though after adding a second teenage male driver.

Allstate won't be getting my business again anytime soon though. We had over 15 years with only a couple minor claims; one at fault, one not. While in Normandy on vacation we were dropped via email Jan of '23. No notice, just we've terminated your policy, dropped. That was a fun one to figure out while on the first day of vacation with a teenager at home driving kids to/from school and getting to work. They raise our rates quite a bit a few months prior so we had already been looking a little, but that sealed the deal for good.

Utah state law only requires that you insure the car. If you don't have a requirement with your policy to ensure all drivers, you can save a lot of money. I tested this with my daughter. She was driving my insured car and got into an accident with Gieco being our insurance company. They paid the claim but repeatedly advised that we add her if she was going to drive our cars. They then failed to renew our policy a few months later. That tells me there isn't a law requiring you to insure the driver and the insurance companies are happy for you not to know that.

That's one of the ways my mom kept her insurance affordable when she had 4 teenagers driving. Every car was insured with her as the "Primary driver."

Man this makes sense. I'm with Farmers and they "require" any driving age person to be insured for each vehicle and my rates are insane. I felt like that was a line of bullshit... I'm gonna have to give them a call and see what I can do. I have been planning to switch anyways so I figure it can't hurt.

State Farm does both. We're all listed as primary drivers of our own vehicles, but we're all covered on all vehicles. I asked the agent what would happen if Ian wasn't listed as a primary driver on any of them, and she said not much. Just having him under the roof is the big difference.

I have my cabin insured through American family. It is hard to find insurance on a house without a furnace. The renewal is in Oct. Last year we got a letter in Sept saying they weren't going to renew because we never sent them photos of the wood stove, we were never asked. I sent the photos to the local agent last year and they renewed the insurance. Yesterday I got a letter again saying they aren't renewing because we never sent pictures of the plumbing or wood stove. This yearly letter is the only thing we ever get from them. It seems they just don't want to insure us.
