My other reason for saying no cops is that we, especially us RME'rs, all did stupid shit in our youths that probably lead to someone's property getting damaged.

#notme!

I was always against causing damage to others property. I left from friends on multiple occasions because of that very thing.
And it’s one thing I beat into my children, doing stupid stuff is going to happen.. but it shouldn't cause issues for others.

Same, I even left when people would talk about going doorbell ditching. Even that was too far for my tastes when it came to inconveniencing others.

My mom constantly joked that I was the "Boring child, go do some drugs or sneak out or something!" Knowing that I never would.

I think you're right posting to Facebook neighborhood group. It's amazing what a little shaming will do for parents taking some input in their children's lives. I was driving home a couple years ago and got egged by some kids in a car with a custom plate, vehicle was a lifted Toyota so I'd noticed them long before the egg flew. Let's just say an hour later their mother knew, I just washed the egg off and moved on but I had kid offering to detail my car and I didn't want to deal with it. Maybe I should have, I don't know, I just wanted to move on.

In the end it's up to you, I expect you will run into these kids again, I expect you to run into these kids for years to come unless one of you move.

As someone that ended up in handcuffs multiple times as a teenager my view point is all it’s going to do involving cops is make them hate cops, hate you, want to retaliate.

These kids obviously need solid roll models and you seem very much like that person. Find them call them out tell them they are ass holes and they need to make things right. Give them a pathway to make it right. If they won’t take you up on it then do what you have to do.

These kids most likely already have issues at home, with authority and adults. Reinforcing what they already believe might get you your $200 back but it likely won’t do a thing for those kids besides fuel the world is against them fire.

100% this.

Any of us would discipline our kids and make it right. Most people are just like us

File the police report; if police do nothing, then drop it. If you get compensated, party time. You already tried talking to the kids, they deserve no other breaks. But don’t make this a personal grudge you hang onto either.
