We took our annual Fall Colors trip today, headed to the San Juan mountains and up Ophir Pass. We helped a stuck Subaru near the top of the pass, it's really loose, shale rock and he kept trying to drive into the holes from bigger 4x4's. I moved ONE rock and spotted him around the holes and he made it up, spinning his street tires. I love Ophir, the view on the Telluride side is incredible. The colors were past peak, but still some Yellow and Gold leafs hanging on.
Coming off Ophir, we drove into Silverton for lunch at the Lacy Rose Saloon and walked about town for a bit, checked out the DSNGRR train that was in town. Then we headed up the Alpine Loop, found some nice colors, explored some closed mines, looked down at Animas Forks and made our way back over to the Highway. The colors were just past their prime, but we found enough to still enjoy.
