Coyotes in the distance

My kid overheard me chatting with a buddy about the good ol days of coyote hunting.

Then the next couple days I caught him looking up “where to find coyotes in Utah” on the computer. Haha. Good enough for me to dust off some gear and charge the caller. I haven’t been out in almost 2 years. Crazy how work gets busy and time flies!!

Had the day off to check out some areas I’ve haven’t been to in a while to see what the odds are for him to actually see a coyote. Didn’t totally disappoint.

Now I know they are there, time to bring him out and hope for the best.

SO close!!!
I’ve taken Ryder out a few times over the years and he never even saw a coyote. I started to believe he was thinking it was some kind of snipe hunt. Then today on the second stand he gets a clean, but longer, shot on a pair standing inches apart. He was on a tripod but heard his breathing get faster and getting kinda shakey. He got a shot off and At first it was a maybe because I only saw one duck and run. He turns back to me tells me “this is NERVE WRACKING !!!!”

Ended up missing, probably low. It was about a 300 yard shot and with his breathing and target panic, I’m sure his shot was less then ideal. lol. No blood, no body found. His coyote hat will have to wait.

Next stand we saw another one but he was ducking in between the brush. Every time I spotted him again and got Ryder back on the glass looking, it would duck back into a wash or brush.

The whole experience got his heart pumping and hopefully the urge to get out more.
