Small kids ATV advice needed

My 4yr old son wants to ride and i got him a TTR50. I put training wheels on it but he destroyed them the second time out. He's just barely too small to ride it with out the training wheels. So he's got another year minimum before he's ready for that bike.

I want to buy him a small ATV to get him going, something my other son can jump on when he's big enough. But it seems there is a million Chinese options out there. Even a brand new Tao Tao is only $1,100.

So what should I get without wasting my money?

Name brand only for moto and atv. You will get your money back when it sells. easily. The Chinese brands fall apart and go in the trash.. believe me, I throw them away ALL the time.

However, pull the pegs off the ttr, pull the rear shock, and let him ride it like a balance bike. He'll be good to go in a couple hours.

My kids rode Chinese stuff when they were young. Surprisingly they did really good for a long time. Then as they got a little older 7ish we went to a Polaris sportsman 90 and it was much better, had a suspension (stiff as it may be) and we still have it. 4 kids later I bet I could get the same money I paid for it. Jeeper is right, get a used one for $1200 and sell it for @1000 when your two kids are done with it. Mine will be a grankid hauler one day. (and the TTR 50 too)

I'd put him on a pw50 before a ttr50. It's close to 40lbs lighter and can be made much lower too. I have a couple my boys have grown out of.

I'm a big fan of electrics for beginner kid bikes, but the price on name brand ones are not cheap. I absolutely love my kid's Husqvarna/ KTM/ Gas Gas EE2!

If you're dead set on an ATV, get a Japanese one only. The Chinese ones have absolutely zero resale value and parts availability is usually a shot in the dark on Amazon or eBay.

I'll look into getting a pw50 as I'd like to keep him on a bike instead of an ATV

I bought a Kawasaki 90 4 wheeler for my kids. After a couple of them rolled it at speed, we sold it. Bikes only for kids. A young kid can't torpedo into a building at speed on a bike unless they have skills to balance. Only skill required to ride the quad full speed is a functioning thumb. My kids ran over a hundred gallons of gas through PW50 and PW80's. The cost to run them is so minimal. You don't really own them, you just rent them off KSL long term, kinda like engine hoists.
