Sun roofs... I'm out on a truck with those. It's kind of funny seeing salesmen reactions when I'm looking at a truck and we figure out it has a sunroof. I bail right there. "You're more interested in this XL rather than this Platinum????"

Best of luck with the sunroof. They can be a project.
I don’t want to hijack the thread but holy crap I’ll never buy anything with one again. I’m probably 10 hours in so far

:shudder:

Lots of work my friend! You'll get it done I'm sure. You only have to do that one time. You'll never buy another rig with one... (our silly Navigator has one.... She knows how I feel about it)

Ha! That’s the bike I replaced with my DB. I had the smoked chrome one!

FWIW, upgrade. I loved my mongoose but modern geometry is sooo much better. You’ll have more confidence.

I'll have to commit funds after I've proven the concept. What I have will do what I need it to do for a few months. It'll also help me evaluate if I need ANOTHER hobby (I don't)

Every Toyota truck or SUV I've owned had a sunroof (Moonroof in Toyota parlance). Never an issue with any of them. My 3rd gen 4Runner was 22 years old when I sold it, the moonroof worked as good as the day it was bought. I wouldn't buy an SUV (or at least a Toyota) without one.

The day the 3rd gen was sold doing an in-and-out at the dealer.

The salesman parked it in the Handicapped spot...

This is exactly the way. Don't buy a new bike yet, what you have there is perfect for getting your feet wet. And if you do get addicted and buy something new, the Mongoose will be perfect for...
Dude, he's got a perfect gravel bike. A new chain and some new tires and wider bars and GTG!
This. 100%. Those early bikes with the monster stems are ideal for drop bar conversions. Switch up from the 26" to a set of fast 650b wheels and run a shorter stem with a set of dirt drops and that would be a fantastic dirt road ripper/gravel grinder.

I've done this with my '99 Hard Rock and it's fun. I went back to flat bars when I put the ebike kit on it, but I'm thinking about switching again. These old steel frame XC bikes are a riot to play around with.

Same place, same time. Goal is to go about half a mile past the over Legacy hwy bridge. 4:45pm I "think" I have my Samsung Health app working to record my mileage. We'll see.

Edit: Just for any future personal reference, I'm doing "OK" physically but I can tell I'm moving again and my body is protesting. Dull aches in my back, sore glutes (definitely expected), and I can "feel" my quads. The quads aren't sore but I bet as I get them moving again this afternoon, I'll feel the lactic acid in the muscles there. As long as it's not "pain", I'll keep going.

A little saddle irritation going on. That's expected as well. If that keeps up, I'll invest in a better seat as I'm sure 1) the technology has changed a WEE bit since 1994 and 2) the materials aren't what they were when mfg after this long. 2 rides in, I expect some saddle issues. I think I'd buy a new saddle at 5-6 rides so it's probably time to start researching/shopping a bit as 5-6 rides will be sometime next week.

Oh, and I got on the scale yesterday morning.... yikes, I am a fat ass (at least for me @ 264)

Edit 2: Well, this is interesting...

My back is doing ok. Rode today and yesterday. 2.87 miles. If I'm counting correctly, that's 5 rides in the last 9 days. I'm keeping a little log in post #54.

I'm headed out to solder my radiator on the Buick as I have a gooseneck hitch to install on F350 tomorrow (also a viewing for a friend) and I'd like to use the space where the Buick is for Super Duty.

I'm still chugging along at just under a 3 mile ride. This week I did the same ride three times. Parking lot to the mid point of Legacy on the bridge. I think for next week, I'll go a bit further over the bridge (adds another quick climb as you come back) and go at least another 1/2 mile past the bridge to get to 4 miles per ride.

I'll likely pedal tonight after work hitting my 4 rides per week goal.

Next week does look like inclement weather if you are a powderbuoy IG watcher. We'll see how the week shapes up.

My back is coming around. I think muscles were just protesting against being used again? My post ride recovery time is getting better each time. Yesterday's ride was a force of will. I was not interested in riding (kind of a taxing day honestly) and had to force myself often to keep riding. It was good to pass that mental exercise.
