2025 Goals!

What do you want to accomplish for 2025? Where do you want to go? What trails do you want to run?

Seems like a yearly tradition to lay out our plans for the year (2024 Goals thread), get friends on board and start making goals. My goals for 2025 will be similar to 2024, since I didn't accomplish all I wanted to. :(

My 2025 Goals include planning more RME trips with friends, I'd really like to show UT friends around Western Colorado... 21 Road, Billings, Montrose, maybe the San Juans? Want to get out exploring in the Gladiator, too.

Want to work on bringing back the RME BBQ, need to put in the effort to make that happen.

  • Hanging Tree
  • Montrose trails
  • Sand Hollow
  • Moab (Pritchett, Pickle, Moab Rim, Cliffhanger, Kane Creek, etc)
  • Holy Cross
  • Montezuma Canyon / Alstrom / Escalante
  • RME Trip up 21 Road & Billings Canyon / the Cutoff
  • I'd like to attempt Hard Nox since it's nearby

Far as vehicle plans, I want to get the '43 MB up and running and start working thru the needed items to make it trail-worthy once again. I have another big project in the works, but I'll save those details for another thread.

Well you put this in chit chat so I'm assuming it can be an all inclusive goals, not just wheelin goals. Here are mine.

  • Weigh less than 200lbs, for longer than a week.
  • MTB >=500 miles
  • Run >=100 miles
  • Ride ADV bikes with my dad 5 times with one ride being overnight.
  • 2 ADV camping trips with my wife.
  • 2 Jeep camping trips.
  • Compete in at least 2 shooting competitions with my youngest.
  • Attend RME BBQ that Greg brings back.
  • At least 2 Wheeling days with RME peeps.

  • Go on a week long date with my wife where we wear much less clothing than normal (Jan)
  • F350 setup complete (accessories installed and critical systems run through) (Feb-March)
  • Execute on trail responsibilities for RR4W (April)
    • Work on volunteer recruits for RR4W officials (year long)
    • Prerun all 4 trails before the event (feel free to jump in if interested---Poison Spider, Dome Plateau, Seven Mile Rim, Fins and Things) (Feb-Apr)
  • Buick to Bowling Green-Buick GS Nationals (May)
    • ¼ mile race the Buick at Idaho Falls and/or Evanston (June-Sept)
    • given that that’s happening in Bowling Green (May)
  • ORI on all 4 corners of the “Jeep” – that will require 4 link in the rear, new front/rear diff gears (14 bolt and GM D60) (Apr-Aug)
    • Assuming “Jeep” is up and trail worthy,
      • Coyote Canyon (Sept-Nov)
      • Pritchett Canyon (Sept-Nov)
      • Pickle is always kind of fun for me for some reason, maybe a reverse run of Seven Mile after that to get back to the trailer (Sept-Nov)
      • Jump in with @Greg on some of his trails (post "Jeep" completion)
      • Hang out in Sand Hollow for a few days without exploding a Dana 300 (post "Jeep" completion)
      • Kicking around the Vernal event but that’s pretty quick after my Kentucky trip—maybe I do that with the JT? (June?)
  • JT stuff:
    • More Logan Canyon-Monte Cristo-Randolph-Cub River type exploring (June-Oct)
    • Camp (yes, I typed that) a couple nights on Hole in the Rock and check that box off (Sept-Nov)
  • RME BBQ sounds cool (again, stealing from @glockman ) (???)
  • Get all the RME Gladiators (others welcome obviously) out on the trail (Green River-Swell?) with their required NAPA compressors and minimum required duckage
    • {Could be combined with the RME BBQ ?} (???)
  • Stealing from @glockman , Hitting 500+ miles on my pedal bike (probably different terrain than him but I’ll hit the mile limit--- that 3 trips of 3 miles+ per week—that aligns with my fitness “goal”)
  • get my "1000 yard" .223 out to 700-800 (this will require a little reloading/load development--75 or 79 grain pill here) with current optic -- I haven't touched that rifle much for 5-6 years -- needs to change (maybe combine that with the Gladiator/BBQ event with a quick run to the Green River long range?)
  • Build my "broken junk" display case/table for my downstairs lounge area

Let's see:
Race a little less. Trail ride a little more. More effective practice.
Get some podiums in 40 A/ Expert. I'd like a season podium (we'll see how that goes in my first "A" season).
Camp a little more.
Run 2-3 times a week.
90% less soda.
Eat more meat while consciously avoiding processed foods.
Take the wife out on a date out of the house once a week. An overnight stay out of the house once a month.

- Backpack the Paria from White House to Lee's Ferry.
- Backpack Grand Gulch with my Daughter.
- Find more gold than 2024, > 1/2 oz.
- Clean up the wiring on the LJ and find where all the dust is coming in from.
- Lead a GTT again.
- Teach my friend Alan how to catch fish.
- Lose at least 20 pounds and gain it back again.
- Get my Bill Drill under 3 seconds and my 10-10-10 drill under 7 seconds.
- Kill 50 coyotes.

-To work on the buggy enough to tease those of you that care
-To go on 2 rec wheeling trips with my Jeeps
-To see more of you at DCRC. Competing, judging or spectating, I'd like some 'round-the-campfire time like last year
-To install a mini-split in the shop and a firepit on the side of my house.
-To go on an annual trip with just the wife (see Marc's naked time comment above)

Can gladiator owners join for this endeavor as well? 😬

I think that'd be pretty sweet

I quote myself here:

Not necessarily nekkid for a week (that'd be difficult unless you're into a nudist thing? Whatever floats your boat sir), just less clothing than normal.

RE: the above.
Let's help with manageable goals/milestones here:
What's the current status? What's the next steps on each system?
Engine:
Trans:
Transfer case:
Fuel system:
Steering:
Brakes:
Seats/belts/safety:
Rotten status of current tires:
Appearance/body panels:
Other things I missed:

Get on dirt min once a month.
Min 20 days in the Trd Hotel
Explore a new area once a month
Buy a “trail” jeep
Wheel new trail Jeep on at least 5 “hard” trails I haven’t been on.
Try and get back into competitive multigun
Learn more about ELR shooting and dial in new toy.

Can LJ owners just come watch?

I haven't had a long range rig for about 20 years now. Got pretty into it for a couple years, wore out two custom barrels in less than two years, but it really wasn't my cup of tea. I was all about live varmint killing at 1,000 yards. Too many crawl offs and too much luck involved. Not to mention the expense of wearing out a custom barrel in less than six months of actual shooting each.

You're welcome to assist/observe/heckle/participate/school/etc. I'm sure you know 50 times more about long range stuff than I do.

I’m digging this thread. Lot of similar mindsets and interests.

I’m joining in with hopes to team up and help knock some goals out.

- get out in the dirt at least one day a month for the day.
- get out to Moab for my first trip in 20 years.
- gotta get Ryder out hunting to get his first coyote, rockchuck, and deer this year. He is pumped to step up from prairie dogs and rabbits.
- attend more RME events….BBQ I hear?? More events in general.
- would be nice to drop a few pounds of endurance layer.
-get around to finally build a new rifle….20 practical has been calling my name for a while.
- XJ needs to be regeared.
- ride bike to work more often once it warms up.
- want to do at least 10 overnighters in new areas.
- make it a full year working out without doing something stupid to hurt myself. Brain keeps reverting back to 20 something year old infantry mindset and pushing too hard on a 40+ year old used/abused body
- pack up to lone peak to relive a trip me and a buddy did years ago as crazy teens. It was a death march with cheap/heavy gear and too much good food and drinks. He passed away in 2024 and it was a trip we always talked about doing again but never got around to.

First and foremost
●Get my Journeyman in machining!
● "Finish" my house
○Light Kitchen remodel
○Light Bathroom remodels
○Clean everything 5x over before move in
●Do all of my RR4W assignments and responsibilities.
○EJS
○Labor Day Campout
● Read 3 books cover to cover (I can always start books but have a hard time finishing them)
● Go Shooting once per quarter

I'm usually overly ambitious and only meet a few goals a year, however here's a quick list:

- Medically cleared for work and Jump
status.
- Pull Jump master duties again.
- Go on a vacation that's not linked to me
or my wife's work (think @mbryson
earlier comment).
- Plan and execute a boys trip with my
oldest son before he leaves for the
military in the fall.
- Get the Midget Ecotec swap running and
driving with 16 year old son:
- engine/ trans mounts finalized
- exhaust down pipe welded and
radiator/muffler selected
- fuel system put together (in tank fuel
pump and FPCM mounted)
- wiring harness and gauges finalized
- hood reshaped a little for taller engine

- Start build of 1972 C25 with 14 year old son:
- pull LQ9 drivetrain from 05 escalade
and swap in to truck
- mild engine overhaul (gaskets, rings
and bearings)
- cam swap, thinking BTR or Texas
speed
- transmission selecred debating
4l65/70 or 4l80. Haven't had great luck
with the 60/65 so I'm leaning the 80
route.
- rear frame mount tank swapped and
plumbed
- drop spindles and rear frame notch,
still planning out

I will say get the LS swap and other upgrades done on the Land Cruiser- should be easy since it is currently in the shop to get that done.

A bit more fishing and camping.

Past several years I have averaged visiting 3-4 new countries a year. Would love to keep that up, but seems unlikely to happen.
