Ford Factory Stereo and Speakers

When I ordered my F150 I decided to upgrade the stereo over getting the huge sun roof. I actually had the sun roof option checked and then decided I hated the sun shining through it in the summer and didn't want to deal with it getting stuck or leaking so I unchecked the box and opted for the 14 or 16 speaker surround sound stereo option. It sounded pretty good but I noticed a few weeks ago that one of the speakers was obviously blown so I got online and decided to replace the door speakers with some from Crutchfield.

Here is what the factory speakers looked like from one side to the other. I think on my next truck, I will just plan on taking my truck to a stereo shop when I get it and spend that money on the good stuff. Look at the size of the magnet, one side has a tweeter and the other side has none. Maybe thats the surround sound difference? I just thought it was interesting. The drivers side is the one that had the tweeter.IMG_3902.jpgIMG_3903.jpg

I’ve also got a blown speaker in my 2022 Ford truck, but it’s essentially the base model stereo. I really need to upgrade the speakers.

I really liked the Sony premium stereo in my '12 F150. The new '21 has the basic stereo (not B&O) i wish it had a sub so that will be something I woukd like to add.....and I already swapped the rear speakers(one was also blown) with Kickers

I think the upgrade is mostly for more speaker locations not for high quality components. It really is amazing how crappy OEM speakers can be and still sound decent

Tacoma JBL factory "Premium" speaker on the right, next to a $48 pair of aftermarket JBL speakers. Now that Apple Car play and Android auto are a thing, there is ZERO reason to pay for OEM upgraded sound in a new car. Especially in Toyotas it is WAY harder to put better aftermarket stuff in if you have the premium oem stereo.

The system in my Jeep is amazing straight from the factory 32 years ago. The tape deck works great and the blown speaker in the driver door is the real chef's kiss
