Jeep Speed Goat TJ, the anti-build thread

Any thought to run some UHMW plastic on the belly skid?

    Pole Barn build - updates

Any opinions on the mezzanine/loft floor? Its built with 3/4" tongue and groove, but I'm thinking of putting something over it to protect it from water and fluids or anything else that might be up there in storage. Maybe peel and stick flooring?

    Pole Barn build - updates

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Mike, we had been looking at Beehive, but your recommendation helped weigh extra in their direction. We started construction with Beehive the first week of Jan and finished the first of May. Took almost exactly 5 months, but we intentionally waited for...

    Pole Barn build - updates

Its a big deal to me (and maybe wife). After moving for 33 years in the Air Force, now we can settle down and have a nice place to ourselves, including this shop. I have so much to do still.

    Pole Barn build - updates

Beehive is done. Stairs and railing for the mezzanine are complete. Concrete is 2-weeks cured. I need to get electric power hooked up soon. The tow rig hasn't had much shade over the years. Plenty of space to work on the TJ now

    Gravy's 2005 Liberty Renegade

They always look like good wheelers to me, but the ones I've seen on the trail have had iffy performance. For a mall crawler, I'm sure it'd do well. Hope you get the trans back soon

    Pole Barn build - updates

They came back today to cut the reliefs in the fresh concrete. They left one junior guy. Early in the morning I gathered up 8 buckets and some 2x4s to mark off the footers for the lift. I took careful measurements after they were dug so I could properly locate them again. Good thing I did...

Concrete day today. 4500 psi (fiber reinforced). Two spot footers in the main garage with #6 rebar reinforcement for future lift install.

    Political So now what

For 1980, should be no change. Utah State Tax Commission: TC-745 (sums it up here): I got a quote for my 1982 Scrambler (CJ-8) today with an estimated value of $15K and it was $213 per year through a sub-contractor insurance company for USAA. Seems like this is the easiest route. We don't...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Mike - car looks great! Are those the original wheels? I like the look of them, they look OEM, but I didn't know they were offered in chrome.

Towing a car hauler (Jeep) with a slide-in camper

Been watching new truck camper prices and they have continued to go up - insanity if you ask me. Northern Lite and Lance can be over $80K...

Towing a car hauler (Jeep) with a slide-in camper

Definitely could build your own as long as you have decent fabrication skills. In my opinion a strong rear connection is the most critical as it will experience the most forces during a stop. BTW, the Torqlift brackets are quality and often show up for sale on KSL for less than new $.

    #iwannagofast ZJ build

Poly Performance used to make some link/shock tab combos that would place the shock there (XJs and TJs were target vehicles) - should work like you want it as long as you can still get to the link end.
