I run 14s (on a YJ frame) with only 5-6 of shaft showing, and that last 5/8 or so is not travel. I haven't had any issue with that little uptravel. However, I don't really run high speed. Maybe you'd want more for that.

That's crazy. Maybe school is starting and all the families are bringing their kids to college? Lunch is a possibility. Depends on when we finish and if I try to make the family party.

It sounds to me, that you know what you like. If you can deal with the "does the job ok" for the occasional use, go with that. Otherwise, go with what you know you'll be happy with. Just my .02, since I'm the type that buys something and lives with it to the end.

Trying to decide if I can blow off a family party that I don't really want to go to. However, early starting time and a capable group may allow both.🤔

I wired up a truck to just that, only with a camper. Needed it to charge the camper battery while driving but not drain the truck battery when camping. It was pretty easy but long enough ago... Google battery isolator.
