    Your Pic of The Day

A hike through the swamps of Southern Georgia from my campsite. Not quite what you get out west, but an interesting place to visit.

    Thanksgiving weekend!

bad news for me on this trip. I’ve decided to stay off interstates so it’s taken me two days to make about 300 miles headed north to see family. At this rate I won’t arrive there until mid next week.Staying for any time to visit will put me in way too much time crunch to make it all the way...

    Thanksgiving weekend!

is THIS the place you're talking about? Friday morning after T-day is easier for me than before that. I'm coming all the way from the NE and I don't want to be in too much of a hurry. I also have family in Albuquerque that I am hoping to catch up with. That could be before or after though.

What kind of a-hole has a Bday on election day?

Happy Birthday @Cody! And a belated Happy Birthday to @I Lean !!

    Thanksgiving weekend!

I'm going to defer to you and @Hickey for routes. It's been 13 years since I've been out that way other than my 3 week trip in July/Aug this year. Whatever your truck can do, it's likely my van is less capable. I'm not afraid to push a little, but it is an 8500# full size, high roof Transit...

    Thanksgiving weekend!

@Rot Box are you looking at routes for Thanksgiving? I"m still working on my plan. I'll be in Massachusetts from Nov 11-15 before I start heading south and west. Looks like T-day is the 26th so that gives me 10-11 days to get out that way.

    2020 Virtual SEMA show

I'm 100% with you on that. I know people are trying to keep the activities / events / whatever alive, but to participate in a virtual event doesn't have near the same appeal as attending in-person.

Political Let's talk about the Biden family problem.

I heard an interesting commentary on difference between the 2 party system and a parliamentary system as in the UK. Essentially, and I'm paraphrasing here - in a parliamentary system, you WILL have a REAL Nazi party. Eventually, there will be a situation where other parties need to make...

Political Let's talk about the Biden family problem.

Whatever you think about Jared Kushner (as one example that you may be referring to), you probably don't really know him. This is a very interesting interview with him.

    Coronavirus

Most states that are being most strict seem to have a 14 day quarantine for visitors. I believe at my work, the instructions are, if I feel that I've been exposed, it's 14 days. So, at least that's a starting point.

    Thanksgiving weekend!

I'm into that. I'll just be drifting anyway so finding the beautiful areas of the country is really mostly my goal.

    Thanksgiving weekend!

How hardcore are you talking? I will be full-time VanLife at that point, and will be looking to do some fun and challenging routes for my van. It's a Ford Transit with the Quigley 4x4 conversion. As it is a high roof, it also fits into the 'extra big' category.

Trip Report Montezuma Canyon, Alstrom Point, Smokey Mountain Rd to Left Hand Collett Canyon (Oct 15-18)

man, when is the next trip of this sort? Around Thanksgiving I'll be full-time VanLife and in the SW USA and will be looking for just this kind of terrain. Technically Nov 9 will launch my VanLife but I have to visit family before heading SW.

RME October Trip - Montezuma Canyon, Alstrom Point, Left Hand Collett canyon

I thought there was some talk of an overlanding trip through Death Valley over Thanksgiving (hint, hint @Greg) I hope @Greg and @I Lean recover quickly!! To get the thread back on track - I hope everyone has a great time, and I'm can't wait to see the photos and the trip reports.

    Wilderness First Aid Courses

In part because they were offering courses close to me - I live in South Carolina. The scheduled (and then cancelled) Wilderness First Aid course was at a college about 20 minutes from my house. In part because NOLS is a brand I've heard of for a number of years. I'd not heard of any others...

    Wilderness First Aid Courses

Before covid, my plan was to take the NOLS Wilderness First Aid (2 day course) in March, then in December, the 11 (or 12) day Wilderness First Responder. Because of Covid, the March class, which I was signed up for, was canceled. I had not signed up yet for the WFR course, and I've decided to...

RME October Trip - Montezuma Canyon, Alstrom Point, Left Hand Collett canyon

When I rolled through Big Water (and Escalante) in late July / early Aug both offices were closed but had signs posted with the phone number. There were Rangers working at the office so I called and chatted with a Ranger about road conditions while I was standing outside the visitor center.

    Favorite carry?

Yeah, I'm not near as accurate with the XDS as I am with my 1911, but with the XDS I can put a magazine in a head sized group at 40 feet pretty easily, even with rapid fire. That's good enough for a carry. If I want to play with accuracy, as in target shooting, the 1911 is the one. And yes...
