    Mine eyes

In my garage I have both safety glasses and goggles. The safety glasses I use only when I'm working with something that, should it get in my eye, might cause me a slight inconvenience. Any time I use my cutoff wheel, however, I go straight for the goggles... every time. They don't call it a...

I Love The '80s, -OR- we induct a friend into the Roadkill lifestyle

We got together at my garage on Tuesday and finished dismantling the engine. When we removed the first rod earlier, Mike got a bit too eager and just barely scuffed one tiny spot on the crankshaft. Oops. The local machine shop will only charge us $70 to polish the crank, so this was no major...

    Any Mtn Bikers on RME?

Because it is free on my Galaxy S5, I use Samsung Health.

Dog Cemetery at Lookout Pass along the PET

As we came up on it, we began to get worried about what we would find. Turns out Stephen King was nowhere in sight. Instead, we simply found this: Off hand, I'd say Aunt Libby was way too creative when it came to choosing pet names. Oh, and I wonder how the two men and the child feel...

Dog Cemetery at Lookout Pass along the PET

Yep, I saw it when I drove the trail in April. Hang on--I've got photos somewhere.

Getting healthier in 2020. Who's in?

My recent bicycling has made me think about this. I use my scale to (occasionally) check my weight because, well, that's what you're supposed to do, right? That's all I've ever known, anyway. A couple weeks ago, I was standing at the sales desk when a co-worker (who knows about my biking)...

    Any Mtn Bikers on RME?

#1) The photo angles are not identical. All three seats are approximately the same width. #2) More importantly, in my case it was most definitely the channel. I was trying to be very delicate in my explanation, but the second seat with no channel at the back was causing chafing and then...

    Any Mtn Bikers on RME?

Personal update On May 2nd, I reported a loss of 4 pounds and expressed my desire to drop another 9 by June 1st. Well, here we are. This morning, I saw that I am down only another 4 pounds since then. On the surface, you'd think I am upset about that... but I'm not. Why not? Well, during...

    The H'ell Camino

When I bought my Tanks Inc tank and pump for my Grand Prix's EFI conversion, I had a similar problem. When I first went to fire it up, the pump made noise but only a very small amount of fuel dribbled out of the line. (Yes, this is a photo of my old stock tank which I just dropped before...

I Love The '80s, -OR- we induct a friend into the Roadkill lifestyle

For the record, Mike's girlfriend (you can see her in the last engine pulling photo above) just moved in with him earlier this week. So there's that....

I Love The '80s, -OR- we induct a friend into the Roadkill lifestyle

Myself, I'm extremely jealous. I'd love to have a similar plot of land behind me home, though even then it would not be as good as his setup. What's better than the size of it is its precise location. Even though he is in the heart of the city, this side yard is bordered on one side by a very...

I Love The '80s, -OR- we induct a friend into the Roadkill lifestyle

No doubt. The other day, Mike and I finally crawled under the car to get a look at the rear axle. It appears to be an 8.5 after all, which means it ought to be sufficiently strong for what we have planned. Good--we just saved Ryan some time and money. Next up, the 454. Ryan borrowed his...

I Love The '80s, -OR- we induct a friend into the Roadkill lifestyle

Dave ended up offering his 454 to Ryan for $200, so that is a definite green light for using that engine. With that decision made, we planned to haul it to Mike's place. If we luck out and it is in relatively good shape, we can just dingleball hone it in his shed, then assemble and drop it in...

I Love The '80s, -OR- we induct a friend into the Roadkill lifestyle

(I share this story here because I thought it might give some of you a good chuckle.) As I've said many times, my friend Mike and I are co-workers. Well, we have a newish co-worker, Ryan (he's been with us 8 or 9 months). Ryan is hilarious to hang out with and an all-around great guy, but he...

I just opened a Roth IRA, and am ready to invest in the stock market

Here is a philosophical update of sorts on the evolution of my Roth account (and my own mentality). As you may (or may not) recall, when I first opened this account I hastily deposited $5000 and split it evenly into two index funds. Okay, I did do a tiny bit of screening and research when I...

    Who makes good fuel pumps

The Walbro in my Grand Prix is quiet as a mausoleum. Well, at least I think it's quiet. Now that I ponder it, I'm sure there's no way I'd hear it over the dual 3" exhaust system. PRO TIP: If your fuel pump it too loud, upgrade your exhaust system. :)

    Who makes good fuel pumps

Back in my minivan drag racing days, I upgraded to a Walbro 255 pump. This worked flawlessly for me, even at 24 pounds of boost. That was "the" pump to have in the high-powered turbo Dodge world, and we generally saw good results with it. My current Grand Prix has a Tanks Inc baffled EFI tank...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

We'll be replacing the 307 with this roller cam 454 which we dropped off at my house on our way to yank the 307. We'll be doing a dingleball cleanup of the bores, then install a new ZZ502 camshaft, RPM AirGap intake, and longtube headers just like in my car. To deal with the added bulk of...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Yesterday I spent the afternoon helping a friend yank the dead 307 from his newly-acquired 1988 Olds Custom Cruiser.
