Build Thread: Sixstringsteve's 2002 Tacoma double cab: Carlos

I've had a bunch of different rigs and my '03 taco has been the most versatile. I think you should keep this one. I'm with you, rockcrawling is not the primary focus for me and my Tacoma does the "overland" and camping stuff so well and gets acceptable mpg while doing it. And when there is...

Doesn't look like Fat Bob's carries Hella. They were the first place I looked since they have a shop close to me in Layton.

Anyone know of any local shops that sell Hella Lighting Products? I need to replace the Clear lens covers for my HIDs and need to find someone who either stocks them or can order them for me. TIA

I think you'll be glad you went this way. Having your own welder and being able to make stuff the way you want them is nice and I value doing my own work when I can. I'm sure you'll feel the same kind of satisfaction. Of course, let me know if I can be of assistance.

Yeah fiberglass vs steel tub. I should probably go get it weighed just to be sure but I think with the tire carrier and the new tent rack I'm probably getting close to the weight limit.

Probably still not 100% necessary, but I'm probably getting close to the 750* weight so it had me thinking about it. the other reason is purely for theft/insurance purposes. Again, probably not really "necessary" but better safe than sorry I guess.

So I'm looking at getting the trailer registered and it's got me thinking about some personalized plates for it. Considering something that goes with "box rocket" (might do some BOXRCKT plates on the truck). But I'm looking for suggestions if anyone has any bright ideas.

Thanks for the compliments. It's been a fun ongoing project. I've considered repainting it to match the Tacoma since the Cruiser is probably being sold soon.

The other thing, if I ever leave it in a campground like I have in Moab, I pull both ends of the coupler. It won't stop someone determined to take it, but it would stop someone from just hooking it up and taking off.

Yeah, that's the only reason I'd worry about getting it registered was because of theft. Fortunately 99% of the time its hooked to the truck with locking hitch pins or it's parked inside my garage. If it were parked outside, I'd be more worried about it.

I have nothing against getting it registered, and frankly, I probably should whether it needs it or not. I just haven't had the need to, so I haven't yet.

Yep, I just found it too. I don't have an exact number for the weight with the latest additions but I'd guess it's between 600-700 pounds empty with the RTT on it and the spare. If I wanted to be sneaky, I could pull the tire carrier and the tent rack and I'd bet its about 500lbs.
