    Any Mtn Bikers on RME?

One thing to watch out for with the E bikes is that many trails which are open to pedal bikes are closed to E bikes. Moab is a good example of this-- most of the "bike" trails have signs that say: No E bikes/pedal assist/cheating. In that situation, E bikes are pretty much restricted to trails...

If I have the luxury of time, I usually like to install my tubeless tape and then install the tire with a tube inflated to fifty psi or so and let it sit over night. Kind of helps the tape get all bedded down where it should be.

I haven't seen that outside of cargo bikes. Where does one find this information?

KHS looks all right. They have been making mountain bikes for a long time. I remember seeing them in the early nineties. They kind of fell out of fashion and I haven't heard much from them lately. A quick look at their website tells me they are trying to appeal to riders on a budget. Only...

I glued it back together with JB Weld and I got myself a sweet deal on a FOX DHX2 coil shock for it, but then progress halted after I couldn't fit it in my frame jig. Then I spent two weeks designing a new frame jig in CAD. I haven't pulled the trigger on that yet, because it's about $1k in...

I'm around 220 geared up and the only times I have ever broken a chain was when shifting under load (only made that mistake once) or when I bashed the chainring into something and split the chain (usually this was on the BMX.) I've never had any trouble with the quick links. Maybe I'm not...

Found this Kingsbridge dishing tool on eBay. It was just the raw casting so I had to do a bunch of filing and machine work (on my new mill :) to get it usable. Bought a brass knob and some .120 x 3/4 stainless tube from McMaster Carr and now I have a fully functional wheel dishing tool for...

    For Sale Tube Notcher

Selling a drill operated tube notcher. Will fit both large and small threaded hole saws on the arbor. Added an extra wing to it so you can notch from both sides. Easily removed with a grinder if you don't like it. Missing the right angle bracket for mounting on drill press table. I found it...

    Knife talk

One upon a time I bought a bunch of D2 tool steel from McMaster Carr and made a few knives. I never figured out a good way to reliably heat treat them, so they ended up be being ornamental knives. It sure was fun to make them though. I had a blast filing and grinding those things out. I...

For Sale Tie Rod/Drag Link/Track Bar- Threaded DOM

I have a piece of 1.25" x .281 wall DOM tubing that has been threaded on both ends to accept 7/8 rod ends. I think that's 7/8-14, left hand on one side and right hand on the other end. It's 38" long. I was going to use it for a track bar on a project that has long since gone away. Pretty...

So here's my next project. After I finish my gravel bike. And after I finish helping my son build his own hardtail. It's a 2016 Santa Cruz 5010C. Picked this up on KSL for $150. If you look closely, you'll notice the BB cluster has been Sawzalled off. It was hanging over a Tacoma tailgate...

The Whole Enchilada bike trip, Columbus day 2019

Well... I've got this old Knolly Chilcotin that I've been trying to sell, but no one is showing much interest because it's one of those terrible, horrible, no good, very bad twenty-six inch wheeled death machines which are totally unrideable. So now I'm toying with the idea of stealing the...

The Whole Enchilada bike trip, Columbus day 2019

I've done TWE twice now on a hardtail and once on a full suspension. Either the trail is getting rougher or I'm getting older... I think I'm with Steve on this one-- not going to do it again on a hardtail. My fourteen year old was pretty beat by the end. He did it on his 95mm travel XC...

I'm definitely more a of a masher, especially on the mountain bike. Still, I really would like to try them on my road bike just to see... Too bad it's close to $200 to outfit my road bike with ovals. That's a lot of money to spend on a bike I only choose to use when the trails are too muddy...

    Any Mtn Bikers on RME?

And now a plug for oval chainrings.... I had oval chainrings on my first mountain bike back in 1993 and I don't remember anything except I didn't want them on my bike because they looked weird because my friends had round chainrings. Twenty six years later I decided to give them another...
