General Tech What did you work on Today?

That is actually where I got the idea. Saw it a few months ago and ordered some supplies but then it took a while to determine the dimensions and such. I thought I'd make a test one out of aluminum but it turned out so nice I wanted to give it away as well.

Now for the last feature of the pen, the clip. After digging through my stainless steel drawer I found a piece of .050" thick 304 stainless steel. However, with it being a bit flimsy I thought I "toughen" it up by work hardening the surface and peen the metal. I cut a strip .200" wide then...

Continuing on with the pen. Shifting gears from the aluminum over to some 410 stainless steel for the bolt and the thumb knob. Shooting for .313" and landed right on it. Then took it down to the final finish with a mill file and emery paper and landed on the final diameter giving about a...

Continuing on with the pen. Next I grabbed the pen by the body in the collet, set the compound angle to 14-degrees and cut the pens tip. Ran some fine emery paper around it followed by some Scotchbrite and lastly some aluminum polish. Now it's starting to look like a pen. Now moving on to...

I wanted to make a pen this year as a gift for my cousin for all the years of him asking questions. He allowed me to raid their junk boxcar for used parts from as far back as around 12-years old when I'd drag home a junk lawnmower or snowblower that needed attention so I could fix it up and...

Yeah, the magnetic tray clearance was the driver for lowering the new one slightly. Thank you.

Final assembly prior to welding. I didn't want the sharp edge to be felt so I placed the end caps so they stand outward by about 1/16" which kept the end caps with a nice rounded corner and less likely to get caught on something or be a sharp edge. Rosette (plug) welds completed. Similar to...

So my Snap-on tool cart is probably one of my most used piece of equipment in my shop as I routinely load it up with tools and move it to where I'm working. When working under the lift it is invaluable to have the cart at my side to place tools and pick tools up from as this aids tremendously...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Finally got back in the shop after the past week and tackled my end of season maintenance on our OPE (Outdoor Power Equipment). While performing the seasonal maintenance and cleaning the deck I noticed there was a wear through area on the right side of the mower deck, similar to the left side...

It looks like you're enjoying the limited slip abilities. How are the gear selection working? Are you liking the RPM range at cruising?

    Opinions are like jeeps............

Bumper looks good. Is there any way you can mount if lower, down into the frame rails a bit? That would definitely help with controlling heat by not limiting airflow through the cooling stack.

Finished up the C10 last night and took it for a short test drive. Runs like a champ and is a fun little truck to drive. After filling the rear end with gear oil, I installed and torqued the rear wheels in place. Back from the test drive. Thanks for looking. Mike

Ha, ha. I don't think so. However, if all goes as planned it should be ready to go after adding oil and a test drive. I'll let you have fun with the 2-legged awesomeness passes however. After the gears are broken in of course.;)

Last post of pictures today. With the center slug installed to keep the axle shafts spaced outward and keep the C-clips in place. The next spacer was installed in the outer section of the carrier. The snap-ring being installed to keep the parts in place. Be certain to inspect the...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Continuing on with the final assembly of the C10 rear end. At this point you have to work quickly upon final assembly of the pinion. Have all tools within easy reach, have the seal prepped and ready as well as some oil. With the outer pinion bearing at the correct temperature (~250*) to...
