this is the design I would do. it will spread the load out farther. when I had a swing out carrier, I used bearing that had a shoulder on them that fit in a piece of 2" x .120 wall tube and ran a 3/4" bolt through them with a "T" handle welded to the bolt. Never had a problem and I did it in...

wasatch usually has salvage water pipe. try Metal Supermarket, they will have tube, but it will be spendy. try one of the local fab shop they might have what you need.

I would shoot for 6* of caster. cutting and turning knuckles is not so much skill as it is time you have to spend to do it.

I voted 4+ but, I want a all around rig. Take the kids to ice cream and just stay "legal" for road travel. Yet still be able to do any trail I choose. with the only limiting factor being how bad I want to damage the body to do the choosen trail. so far it can go get ice cream ok but it sucks...
