    Subaru Outbacks

Nice! I really like the new outbacks. I keep going back and forth if I'd go wilderness or touring, but it's a great platform.

    ChatGPT AI

Clever... I like that application. Make an annoying KB more accessible. I'll be deploying a chunk of Aruba switches in the coming year. If you have success, I might be interested in bribing you to share your results.

    ChatGPT AI

A couple of points -one of my co workers was trying to get it to write an essay for a technology class. He got part way into establishing rules and parameters for the bot and realized he was basically writing the essay trying to program it. Public domain stuff? Probably a load easier than...

    Subaru Outbacks

I've stayed out of this thread for the most part - I'm a subie fan, I've owned a bunch over the years, some good, some bad, a couple of really great cars as well. I bought a motor from Metric Motors for my wife's old 99 outback when it popped head gaskets at 254K miles. The motor was clean...

    Spotted

A friend of mine's dad used to own one, statistically probably THAT one, since it's in Utah. It's got a BMW turbo diesel in the back that got like 30 MPG on a poorly advised road trip to LA in 1994. We smoked the clutch on it in cedar city, and ended up having to get towed home from around...

Just have to show off a bit here

The dash on my 12 valve... original, still slightly springy. I took this pic after cleaning it up from the old dash cover that had been on it since it's first owner took delivery in 98. Second owner kept the dash pad on, and i just replaced it after the foam backing start turning to dust...

Auto Insurance Wants To Track Me?!?!?

THIS... I like it when my 12 valve makes happy turbo noises, I'm guessing the insurance co might not.

Best engine oil for 12 valve cummins

Thanks for the feedback, gents. One remaining question is around running a different weight in the winter - I don't put a ton of miles on this truck, so if I run a change interval of April and October, I'd probably be changing it at around 4K miles on the oil. Would running a different winter...

I bet that thing makes a hell of a noise.

Best engine oil for 12 valve cummins

I've read so many articles and seen three different grades recommended by auto parts stores, and I've got a little bit of analysis paralysis going on. I figured, what better way to cut through the noise than to ask some guys who live close to where I live, and might have some real world...

Wanted Older style Moto Metal 17x9, 8 on 6.5

I'd love to get another one of these: I'd be fine with either this style, or the all black version, as I'm probably going to paint these black anyway. Let me know if you've got one and what you might want.

Redhead Steering Gear Box Shameless plug

My new to me 98 cummins ram has a bit of a history for me... My best friend's dad bought it new in 98, my dad bought it from him in 2005ish, and I just bought it from my dad. The original owner did the 3rd gen steering upgrade and had the unit bearings replaced at around 75K, I did the wheel...

Wanted No longer wanted: 7/8" cut flat style lockwasher

Nate and Stag, I owe you a beer or root beer if we meet face to face. I prob never would have thought of cal ranch.

Cal ranch was the win. 16 cents. Marc. It looks like this:

Wanted No longer wanted: 7/8" cut flat style lockwasher

Thanks Nate, I'll try cal ranch. Marc, internal measurement would be 7/8", it's a cut style lock washer that goes between the pitman arm and shaft nut (heh...) on the steering shaft. I thought I found the answer in a 1" lock washer from a hitch ball, but that was too big. 7/8" inside, prob 1...

Wanted No longer wanted: 7/8" cut flat style lockwasher

My Pitman arm lock washer for my 98 ram apparently evaporated, and I want to get the truck driving this weekend. No stores have them local, including the dealer and nut and bolt supply is closed for the weekend. I'll pay $5 for a single high grade 7/8" lock washer if I can get it before Monday.

    Current hotness in Diesel batteries?

That's a killer idea. It strikes me that if a company were inclined to produce a battery that could live in a rough suspension high vibration, demanding diesel starting environment, Cat makes a lot of sense to be so inclined. I'll look into them. Thanks!

    Current hotness in Diesel batteries?

Thanks Marc, would that be the Super Start Extreme? None of the options I see on their page list a gel battery, but this one talks about high density acid paste, which is probably the same thing.

Back from the dead (heh... see what I did there?)

Yeah, I had a pretty neat 5.9 ZJ, I wonder if the guy that ended up with it is still on here... Thanks for the welcome , Herzog. I'll e-stalk you later and see what kind of cool stuff you've been building.
