7.3 the hard way (Ford Excursion Project)

It's too bad that my Excursions aren't the same year to not have to go through this mess. The front sat a little low with the V10 so I will have to look for some "X" codes since the 7.3 is so heavy. The 01 has new larger than stock tires so I'll run them for now. I don't have immediate plans to...

7.3 the hard way (Ford Excursion Project)

I should mention that my desire to shorten this Excursion is lessened. I think that it would look awesome but it would no longer be great for towing being a short Wheelbase. Maybe if I find one that has major damage to the center section then I might consider it. I now was looking at all of the...

7.3 the hard way (Ford Excursion Project)

7.3 the hard way (Ford Excursion Project)

I was getting a lot done quickly last December due to the warmer weather. I pulled the V10 in Christmas Eve The wiring changed between 2001 and 2003 so all wiring inside and outside needs to be moved over. All switches on the Doors, everything in the Dash even the Windshield Wiper Motor is...

7.3 the hard way (Ford Excursion Project)

I was able to get a 4WD 4R100 Transmission from a 7.3 for $119 from Pull N Save Does the writing on the Torque Convertor mean that it has been rebuilt? I was unable to find an easy way to get the Electronic Shift on the Fly Transfer Case from the 2001 to work without a Computer that I can't...

7.3 the hard way (Ford Excursion Project)

I get it home put batteries in and it has 369,574 miles. I couldn't get a response from the seller. I am wondering if my luck with these could get any worse. I talk to an Attorney that we have used and he said I would clearly win and get my money back in Small Claims but I wanted to see if I...

7.3 the hard way (Ford Excursion Project)

I'll try to shorten this very long story. I have always loved Bronco's and can't afford a new one so I thought why not make one out of an Excursion like this one. In Oct 2021 I picked up a 2001 V10 4x4 Excursion that was overheating for $1,300. The very nice couple didn't have the title but...

Ford 4.0 OHV Slightly melted piston. Would you run it?

The odometer shows 26k miles so I don't know if it is 126k, 226k or 336k. The person that I got it from had it almost a year and the only thing that he know is that they ran a snowplow on it at one point. He is not aware of any other history besides that. I do know that the thing is a mess with...

Ford 4.0 OHV Slightly melted piston. Would you run it?

I picked up a 92 Ext cab Ford Ranger (4.0, Auto, 4x4, 3" lift springs) as part of a trade. I was told that it would die periodically but would start again. I was hoping it wouldn't be too bad to get it running well and drive it or sell it to make a little money. I replaced the Brakes and...

Can't get rid of P0171 (Lean on Bank 1) on Ford5.4 in E350

You are welcome to borrow the Smoke Machine that I made. There are some good YouTube videos on how to make them. I used an old Soldering Iron and an old Fuel rail for a metal schrader valve and a fitting to push different size hoses onto.

Can't get rid of P0171 (Lean on Bank 1) on Ford5.4 in E350

Thank you! It looks like this is it! I hooked up a Wet Dry Vac to the Tail pipe blowing in and sprayed soapy water on the exhaust manifold and both were blowing huge bubbles on the rear cylinders. I noticed that one of the studs was broke off for one of them. The 02 sensors also had a little air...

Can't get rid of P0171 (Lean on Bank 1) on Ford5.4 in E350

Thanks. I have an account for https://www.prodemand.com/ and it will break down the list of usual causes and the parts that Mechanics report replacing that fixes the code for most specific vehicles and this is what it pulled for my van. I did the 02 Sensors, Fuel Filter and Fuel Pump when I...

Can't get rid of P0171 (Lean on Bank 1) on Ford5.4 in E350

My short term Fuel Trims on banks 1 and 2 are around 20% but drop with high RPM. From the YouTube videos this would be a vacuum leak but I can't seem to find it. I plugged the Hose to the Brake Power Booster but that didn't make a change. At Idle At 2500 RPM

Can't get rid of P0171 (Lean on Bank 1) on Ford5.4 in E350

Memorial Day Weekend we bought a $600 wrecked 2001 Ford E350 (244k miles) for 9 of us and 2 dogs to go to the CA & OR coasts. A one week rental was $2,500 so I figured why waste the money on a rental. The frame was fine but the whole front end sheet metal was pushed back 1-2". We had 7 weeks to...
