if you can put the pushrods/rockers back how they were you definitely should, but if you can't it really isn't going to matter... I wouldn't be the slightest bit worried about re using head bolts if they're in good condition. If you're really worried about it then just find new head bolts...

If I want paint to not come off I always use Dupli-color self etching primer (olive drab in color). This solves the paint coming off the metal issue. You can't even scratch the stuff off with your fingernail a few minutes after it's sprayed on. It's also wet-sandable for really fine finishes.

Yeah be careful with oven cleaner... sodium hydroxide is extremely caustic, it'll quickly etch the surface of lots of things.

That's something I've been meaning to do with both of the HF bandsaws I've owned... the "stand" that comes with those is such garbage.

simply green works incredibly well for removing the oily film that's left after bulk degreasing. If the water can blast everything off the surface simple green as an additive will below your mind.
