    Budget winch, yea or nay?

When it comes to buying a winch on an ultra-low budget, my philosophy is this: I'd rather buy a quality model with steel cable (to help keep the cost down) than a cheap Chinese unit with synthetic rope. After all, you can always upgrade from steel to synthetic in the future... and doing that...

EJS 2019 Trail Officials -- which trails are you working?

Looking at my info online (because I am too impatient to wait for the papers to arrive via the mail), it looks like I have two official assignments as of this moment: Sun 4/14: gunning Backwards Bill 10:00am Tue 4/16: tail gunning Steel Bender 8:00am I'll probably be a mid-gunner on BB. But...

Time for a 'Moab Easter Week 2019' forum

Now that trail leader assignments have been made, it might be time for a new subforum on the topic of EJS. I'll refrain from mentioning my trails in this message and will instead wait to discuss them in the appropriate soon-to-be forum. ;)

Anyone still want some on-air ham radio practice?

UPDATE: I have not forgotten about this thread. As mentioned, I did send an email to a general address for the owner of the selected repeater. Two days later (on November 26th), I got a reply from someone who monitors that email account; he said he would forward it to the people that make the...

General Tech Motor swap vs forced induction

Oh, for some reason I thought yours was about the same age as my '98.

General Tech Motor swap vs forced induction

You want more power, but you don't want the thermal hassles of a turbo kit? And you'd like to avoid needing to run 91 octane all the time? Then swapping in a stock V8 sounds like your ticket. But, wait--what about all the hassles of wiring and controlling an LS, plus the added headaches of...

Anyone still want some on-air ham radio practice?

After plotting points on a map, I've decided that a repeater located on Farnsworth Peak might be ideal for us. To that end, I have selected a specific machine... and I have written to its owner to ask for permission to use it for our on-air meeting (what hams call a net). I'll let you all know...

Anyone still want some on-air ham radio practice?

OOPS! I forgot to add that I'll need to know where everybody is located. For you two who have already replied, I know where both of you live, more or less, so that's fine for you guys.

Anyone still want some on-air ham radio practice?

EDIT: I forgot to ask you to post where you live, as well. A few times on RME, some of us have expressed interest in testing our ham radios and/or getting a little practice with them. I even volunteered to lead such an on-air meeting, but things never worked out and it just didn't happen (such...

Anybody know how to fix a pinball machine?

Yes, I am hoping it is something relatively simple and cheap. Thanks to those who posted helpful links. I'll have to head back over to his place and find out the exact model and year of his machine.

Anybody know how to fix a pinball machine?

A neighbor of mine has an old pinball machine. It was probably built in the late 60s or early 70s. His father owned it and took care of it over the years and now it belongs to my neighbor Tom. For this reason, it has a lot of sentimental value to him. Recently, the thing stopped working. As...

First time Rubicon trip - tips and ideas please?

I only have time to quickly answer a couple questions. If you enter at Loon Lake, you miss about 1/3 of the trail. Sure, it starts out pretty tame at Airport Flat... but there was some definite fun that happens before the Loon Lake route joins the trail. There was for us, but we were also...

    The Ham Radio Thread

I've never tried mounting an antenna above a ground plane, but consider this: with a 1/2-wave style antenna, it shouldn't matter. (OTOH, if you're going to use a 1/4-wave or 5/8-wave antenna, it might matter a lot.) Do you already own the antenna?

With the recent changes in yearly inspections, is it still advantageous to title a vehicle as a classic/historic vehicle?

In that case, I'd just put regular plates on it. It's already emissions exempt, so you might as well not have any driving restrictions.

With the recent changes in yearly inspections, is it still advantageous to title a vehicle as a classic/historic vehicle?

What model year, exactly? I am humored and baffled by people who put Vintage Vehicle plates on their pre-1968 car. Those cars already have no emissions test, and even when safety inspections were required all those cars needed was--what?--working headlights and windshield wipers? That's all...

    Any Dukes of Hazzard fans?

I have the first four seasons on DVD. I've been gradually re-watching them at my co-workers house, one or two episodes at a time. I also have a serious desire to own a '69 Charger, and I have also been priced out of the market long ago. Sadly, I once owned one. Back when I was an apartment...

The secrets of the 351W V8

The 1993-1995 Mustang Cobra, plus the 1993-1994 Mustang Cobra R, all had 302 cubic inch displacement. The 1995 Cobra R was the only Mustang of this era to feature a 351 cubic inch engine; it was tuned to develop 300 HP, and production was a mere 250 examples (and Ford kept some of these for...
