does anyone know the states suspension laws?

Once a VIN gets entered into the safety inspection program, it is in there. If you fail at one place and try to get inspected at another, a warning pops up and tells you that vehicle has failed an inspection in the last 60 days. I'm pretty sure you can acknowledge the warning and inspect it...

what we are going to be forced to drive...

Smart cars have been all over Europe for years (at least Germany) and the only redeeming value I could see was that you could 90* park a Smart car when everyone else had to parallel park. Try parking in a big city and you'll understand. SLC does not count. I wouldn't buy one, but they do...

    First attempt at buggy build

I like it a lot. You may want to consider .095" wall tubing for braces and stuff that won't touch rocks. Wall thickness makes a much bigger difference in pounds per foot of tube than diameter does. And stiffness goes way up. For example: 1.5" x .095" = 1.426 lbs. per foot 1.5" x .120" =...

    Ebay 700R4?

I ended up going with an AutoZone Bulletproof HD 700R4. Three year unlimited mile warranty. If I kill it, I'll warranty it and tear down the new one to make it hold up. The eatmyshift/monster guys were cool to deal with, but they were two weeks out + shipping time.

    Ebay 700R4?

I have looked into them a little. Prices are good. Are they a reputable shop? Anyone bought from them?

    Ebay 700R4?

So, the 700R4 in my Blazer died. I am fully capable of rebuilding it myself, but I simply do not have the time before EJS. I've got frames to patch, third members to build and I've still got a lot to do on my rig. I can get a stock rebuilt one from AutoZone for ~$1200 or I saw a couple "high...

    Dana 60 Dually ????

I'm reasonably certain you can just unbolt the spacer and suddenly it's a SRW axle. At the dealer, we had to remove them all the time to get the on-car brake lathe to work on the duallies. After you get the spacer off, it looks just like any other superduty axle. The metric bolt pattern isn't...

    Steering pump and pulley

You could try a strap wrench. Or wrap the belt around the pulley and hang onto the belt.

    Welded front gears

The previous owner welded up the spiders in my front 60 in the blazer. It still had the stock push/pull steering arrangement. With the hubs locked, I could turn the steering wheel from lock to lock and get absolutely zero movement at the tires. The leaf springs just wrapped up. This was on...

Dana 60 high steer arms-springs or springless?

I would vote springless if you are running big tires. The springs work great until you get big heavy tires (37" and up) and then the tires start to over come the spring and you can get death wobble. For 35s and smaller, stay with the springs. If you do go with the springless, get some that...

Wow, I kind of forgot this thread existed. Did anyone from RME go to KOH? How was it?

    School me on chevy engines

I guess it looks like a newer truck motor is the way to go. I saw a 5.3/4L60E on KSL for $1100. Maybe I'll look into that. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the LSx motors use a different motor mount than the old SBC, but isn't the old bolt pattern still cast into the LSx motors?

    700r4 to sm465

I'm not a super chevy guy, but I'm pretty sure most any bellhousing you find on an SM465 from a chevy should fit. Some of them were double drilled to adapt to small and big blocks, but just be safe find one that was behind a small block. Your biggest challenge might be finding a flywheel, not...

    School me on chevy engines

I've been working at a Ford dealer forever and don't know crap about chevy engines. Last time I paid attention to chevy stuff, all the cool kids had TPI 350's, but you were still allowed on the playground with a TBI. I have a 89 fullsize Blazer with a TBI 350 in all its 210 HP of glory. It's...

    Holley TBI opinions?

Sell it on ebay and let some other poor soul deal with it. I have nothing good to say about those old Holley systems. If you do decide to install it, don't throw your carb away. You'll need it again.

    Blazer Build

What year was your last K5? I just bought an 89 and it looks like someone put a lot of time into making diamond plate side panels for the interior. I wonder if it's the same Blazer.

    How thick is to thick?

I don't think it's unreasonable to have thick walled twisty tube. It's nothing more than a hollow torsion bar. I know it's not exactly the same thing, but the shafts that drive the props on big boats are pretty stinking heavy shafts. They usually paint a stripe down the side of the shaft and...

    ball joints???

So that was your superduty.... I was just at Gaylon's picking up my drive shaft. They do good work. That stupid small world song is stuck in my head now. Thanks.

    ball joints???

Are you sure they really need replacing? I know stuporduty ball joints have a habit of going out (I've done well over a hundred,) but the spec is something like .040" of radial play. That feels like a ton of movement at the edge of the tire, especially if you have 35's on it. If you do...

    HREW, DOM and 4130N

The prices were just something I pulled off the interweb, not from any place local, except the HREW. MetalMart in Lehi told me they could do HREW 1.75 x .120 for .81 per foot if I bought 500 lbs or more. I calculated that to be just under 240 feet to hit the 500 lb. mark.
