The Brigham City Rotary Club has a fundraiser this weekend. It is bird watching and photography with prizes for best photography and most species identified at the Bear River Bird Refuge. We participated last year and had a great time. Bird counting starts Friday (I won't head out until...

    Trailer repair, possibly mobile

Yesterday the jack gave out on my horse trailer while getting ready to hitch to the truck. Luckily my foot was off to the side enough! In addition to needing the jack replaced, I am at a bit of a loss on how to get it anywhere for repairs. With tongue on the ground and as heavy as it is (20...

    Question for gun folks...

Focusing on immigration status misses the bigger picture. Contrary to some in the media, undocumented immigrants do not commit more violent crime. And most (obviously not all) mass shootings are native born citizens. There is more potential to prevent violent crime focusing on factors aside...

    Question for gun folks...

The fact that he was in trouble multiple times for shooting in his yard is a very key part of the puzzle indeed, especially since that appears to be the trigger of the conflict. Did any of those previous run-ins with the law over shooting in his yard result in criminal charges? I am guessing...

    Record Snow pack, floods next?

Couple of streets in Grantsville already being used for water diverted out of a couple smaller canyons west of town. Same ones used as 'rivers' in 1983, so far more gentle streams.

Where do you get your local/national news?

I agree that using multiple sources gets you the best overall view and more truthful understanding. During my long commute, NPR is on 90% of the time. Still subscribe to both the Deseret News and Tooele Transcript (for the ultra local stuff.) On line subscription to Washington Post.

What vehicles to avoid buying, teenager style.

Not sure the reason for the anti-Nissan feelings, but my 2006 Xterra has given me roughly 240,000 miles with minimal repairs needed. Remains a great little SUV. And my be up for sale in the coming months. My kids basically took over what I was ready to hand down to them, Montero Sport, Chevy...

    Camping tips:The Sleeping bag

Next month my son and I are headed on a week of camping in Tanzania. Most the trip will be pretty warm (60s overnight) and the light weight, compact bags I bought for a previous Africa trip should work well. A couple nights will be higher elevation with temps into the 40s. With packing...

    Political So now what

Not trying to restart a debate, but ran this discussion passed my CPA son-in-law. His take is that any personal use of a vehicle that is used as a business expense/deduction will not get past an audit. So a spouse whose vehicle use is not directly related to core business functions will for...
