    Let's Talk Lawns

We are looking to redo our yard, focusing on lowering our water use (not going to assume this year means the drought is over.) Any experience on low water lawns? From the reading we have done so far buffalo grass, fescue and clover seem to be the main options.

That is the exact reason for shirts etc with logos of sponsors on them. "Adversing" is an expense, and yes one I do from my business.

    Political So now what

The debt ceiling is not the issue- that is paying for what has already been spent (a personal equivalent would be to buy a new boat then decide you couldn't afford it so you default on the payments but expect to keep the boat.) True budget cuts and government reform are needed but once the...

    Political So now what

2021 was a brutal tax year for me- the "curse" of a good business year I suppose. I was not a happy man leaving my CPA office that day. This year was better. But I appreciate having a CPA for my business who, like @Pike2350 , keeps things above board. But the anti-tax sentiment expressed...

We try to blend how I write off business travel. Airfare, hotel and meeting expenses yes. Tours and activities before or after no.

It is a simple risk calculation. Start too early lowering the reservoirs and end up with a dry late winter and spring (have seen that happen) and we run into water shortages. Luckily not how this year played out.

    Proud father moments

All my kids and their families were at our house for the weekend when a friend called asking me to take a look at their goat who was having a very difficult labor. My oldest daughter, who is a second year veterinary student, joined me on the farm call. It was awesome to see her jump right in...

    How to build a Taco?

I have looked at several 2nd Generation Tacoma on KSL that could fit well into what I want in a new rig. I worry some with ones that are lifted enough to run 35s if the axles etc are really up to the task (the seller of a 3rd went back to 33s specifically because of wear to CV joints.) So...

    Record Snow pack, floods next?

Agreed. We need to find less water intensive feed for livestock and landscaping for homes. Personally I am redoing my yard (zero watering of the lawn last year) and have been researching lower water options for lawn and will likely replant with Buffalo grass. I also seeded my pasture with a...

    Record Snow pack, floods next?

Numbers may not be exact, but I have heard recent news reports that farming in general uses over 60% of water in the state. And yes, alfalfa is exported. Lower Colorado River use is mostly for agriculture in California. Obviously we need food so isn't a bad use of water but reducing waste and...

    Record Snow pack, floods next?

We had two building bid on our house- both Grantsville raised and one who lived just up the street. Both told us in no uncertain terms not to put in a basement. Talked to another friend this weekend who also grew up in town and is in the construction business. He is very concerned with all the...

    Record Snow pack, floods next?

Alfalfa does use far more water than do subdivisions. As some one how needs to buy hay and doesn't like subdivisions that is hard to admit, but truth is what it is.

    Record Snow pack, floods next?

My horses would disagree (as I do with the increased hay prices of recent years.) Although in seriousness we need to transition to crops, including for live stock, with far lower water requirements and technologies that don't waste as much water as a lot of farming does.

    Record Snow pack, floods next?

Based on the weather the last week or so I would say that is pretty much the path we are on- cold, wet spring. The ski resorts are at record snow fall levels with another month to go. The San Juan mountains in Southern CO are at 177% of normal snow pack and they drain into Powell, I think the...

    Diesel Land Cruiser thoughts?

After far too many posts talking about and asking advice on up grading my trail rig, after a better than usual meeting with my accountant has me finally ready to actually do something about it. 80 & 100 series Land Cruisers and properly built Tacoma are my main interests (my wife is partial to...

    RME Apparel Thread...yes, it's happening.

I mentioned RedBubble a page or two ago. Ordered a hoodie from them a year or so ago- very good quality, thick and comfy. First one the printing fell apart with first washing, they immediately sent a replacement that has held up well. https://www.redbubble.com/about/selling
