    The Ham Radio Thread

I used a CB SWR meter because that is what I have. I did use the procedure shown in this link, https://www.kb6nu.com/no-vhf-swr-meter-no-problem/ My actual readings may not be exact but the difference in the readings between the two mounts I think is telling me something is still off with...

The antenna is listed as a 1/2 wave. I think the mount is a little low, it places the antenna between the tire and the runner's back door so it is fairly shrouded. In this location it may be as good as it gets. It would be great if you wanted to look at, any help is appreciated.

I was concerned about this so I used a jumper cable from the antenna mount to the frame and it did not seem to do much.

So I found a problem in the P-259 connector and I repaired it and the tire carrier mount works much better. I checked the SWR on the magmount and the tire carrier. The tire carrier is much worse. The average in testing at 144.5 and 147.5 on the tire carrier is about 3.0 and on the magmount it...

I will give it a try, the 147.08 Lake Mt. repeater may be a stretch for me to hit.

Simple but effective idea, when I place the magmount on the tire carrier it seems to work just fine. Now I have a place to start. Thanks!

    The Ham Radio Thread

So as some of you know I have had some problems communicating on the weekly RME ham radio net using the 146.94 repeater. I believe I have narrowed my problems down to my antenna mount or its mounting location on the vehicle. I have a Larson NMO 02/70 antenna mounted on my spare tire carrier, I...

    Cooling tips.

I agree with @bryson, the stock systems have a lot of engineering behind them. My experience over the years with muscle cars has been when someone puts in an aluminum radiators and electric fan they end up with heating issues. I have seen a number of problems resolved by removing the electric...

I picked up a magnetic base for my antenna to see if my antenna location is my problem so I will try it again.

    Cooling tips.

The bottom hose is the suction or inlet to the water pump, the top is the high pressure or water pump outlet. The water pump outlet hose does not necessary need a spring but the inlet hose does to keep it from collapsing because of the water pump's suction.

    Cooling tips.

This may not be your problem but I have a friend with a YJ and he was having overheating problem at high speed. The problem he found was that the lower radiator hose did not have a spring inside it which allowed the hose to collapse and restrict water flow.

Well failed again. Tried from Farmington with a hand held and was able to hear just fine but the transmit side just didn't cut it. Tried my mobile in the 4runner but I must still have some programing opportunities with it.

There was a post on the Facebook page for the Red Rock 4-Wheelers about repeaters in the Moab area and they mention the “Sinbad linked system”. Because I am new to all of this, with the repeaters all on different frequencies how are they linked? I assume that in an emergency this may be a good...

    Short arm fans?

When I had a TJ and a 4" lift the ride was harsh. I added the long arms and it was much better. As Dave said the angle of the arms make a big difference in the ride, the steeper the angle the more harsh thing get.

cutting the cord and dumping satellite / cable TV -- who here has done it, and how?

I signed up for Directv Now and for the most part I like it, I just wish the menus were like Directv. I am going to give it a try before I cancel my Directv.
