    The Ham Radio Thread

Thanks for the input. I do think that I will buy a Yeasu, now to decide on ether the FT70DR or FT-2DR. The FT-2DR looks to be very nice but at twice the cost of the FT-70DR I am not sure it is worth it to me and from what everyone is saying may not be justified on a handheld. Anyone using...

    The Ham Radio Thread

I have been studying to take the Technician license and hope to take the test at the end of the month. I am looking at hand held radios, I have seen that a lot people start out with the Baofeng's and I have looked at the BF-F8HP. I am not opposed to spending a little more money for a better...

    Why are people so stupid?

I was out on Chicken Corners a couple of weeks ago and saw the same thing, there were fresh tracks going everywhere, it just made me sick seeing all the abuse. There are open OHV areas like Little Sara and then there are the trails. When not in an “open OHV area” then everyone needs to stay...

    Lockhart Basin

Thanks Russ, I believe everyone in the group has at least a rear locker. I am just not sure about any big washouts due to the recent rains.

Thanks for the information. I checked with the Moab BLM and they only said "very poor in some places". I will try the Monticello office, thanks.

    Lockhart Basin

No more JKU, I sold it last year and ordered a 4 Runner. It may not be as offroad capable as the JK was but getting there is much more comfortable.

The website did not indicate that one is required but you do go into the park for what looks like about 1/2 mile then back out. Maybe they view it like the Shafer trail (no permit required).

    Lockhart Basin

I am planning a trip to Lockhart Basin in October and I have a question about a day use permit for Island In The Sky NP. The trail looks like it goes into the park for about a 1/2 mile, I assume that you will need a permit for this. Does anyone have any input?

    The H'ell Camino

If you have any question about the 700R4 I know a rebuilder who can make them hold up to BIG power. We ran one in a 650hp 69 El Camino on slicks a RMR with a 5200 stall converter and it held up. On the street if they are built right and because of the lack of traction they will last for years.

    The H'ell Camino

The 4l80e is a nice transmission but quite a bit more money for a trans and controller. The 1-2 on the 700R is a big gap but around town the low 1st is kind of fun. With your foot in it and a little bit of converter the 1-2 isn't too bad (IMO). Keep us posted on your progress I love the El...
