which winch for a guy who doesn't like winches?

I have the Smittybilt Comp-Series XRC-10 with the synthetic rope and have been very pleased with it. I have only used it 5 or 6 times but seems to work great. I do like the synthetic rope over the steel cable.

    Rubicon Trail, Sept 5-8 2012

Steve you are correct, the Rubicon is very beautiful. Some people off-road for the challenge, others to get out and enjoy the back county with friends. The Rubicon is a trail that should be enjoyed for its scenic beauty and heritage along with enough challenges to make it fun. It was a trip...

Other Region Upcoming Trip: Rubicon Trail Lake Tahoe, CA Sept 5-8th 2012

We may not need to start that early, 6:30 may still be a little dark. The Rubicon Scramble group is going to "stage loon lake dam thursday 9am". If we were 1.5 hours ahead of them (7:30) and keep moving we should never see them.

    Hemi in a TJ?

When you say it needs to be "street legal" then that may limit your options. Before you start on this type of project you may want to talk to your county emissions people. The laws could have changed over the years but at one time on vehicles built after 1983, the engine had to be one that...

Other Region Upcoming Trip: Rubicon Trail Lake Tahoe, CA Sept 5-8th 2012

Earlier because of living north of Cabelas (Layton) I had proposed meeting at the rest stop about half way to Wendover. It may make more sense to meet up at a gas station in Wendover. There is a Chevron right off the second Wendover exit or a Pilot station a little west of the Chevron. If the...

It looks like the plan is to leave Cabela's about 8:30 am. Because I live in Layton my son and I plan to meet up with the group at the rest area about 1/2 way to Wendover (lat=40.7620163, lon=-113.0100098). The rest area is about 90 miles from Cabela's which would put the group there sometime...
