Tricks to get a Job Done Easier

Replace the stupid, hard-to-get-to drain valve on your air compressor with galvanized pipe, a couple elbows, and a ball valve. Now the water sits in an easily replaced piece of pipe not in the compressor tank itself, it's much easier to drain, and doesn't blow oily water all over your hand...

Best place to buy steel in Salt Lake (N. UT county is fine too)?

It's such a PITA to get metal so when I go I tend to build a stockpile. Mostly 1", 1.25" thinwall square tubing, 3 /16" x 1" flat bar, 1/8" x 3" flat, etc. I need to get into the habit of running by Metalmart on Sat. mornings and peruse their drops pile. I really wish I had more room to store...

Making steel wheels for my TIG cart

Here is how I make the rims. The metal will bend about the center line as you roll it out so the length of the flat stock is determined by the diameter of the wheel at the center of the rim thickness. In my case, 7-5/8" so 7.625 * pi = 23.95".. call it 24. rolling that puppy out with the...

Making steel wheels for my TIG cart

Cart build is here https://www.rme4x4.com/threads/building-a-tig-cart.114259/ So after trying a couple purchased wheels I decided to make my own from 3/16" x 1" flat strap. First stop, cut 10 pieces for the spokes, 5 each wheel: Then I tested to see if my 6" hole saw was up to the task (it...

I'm really happy with my Kodiak clone of it. The Kodiak is 8x9 vs 7x8 for the Springbar which when coupled with slightly more vertical walls leaves room for 2 cots (well away from the walls) and a large table. As said above, it's a heavy beast at over 65lbs. When the soil is shallow over rock...
