'02 GX470 code retrieval?

Does anyone know how to retreive fault codes on a 2002 Lexus GX470, without a scan too?

Anything like the ign. on-off-on-off-on-off thing that works for Jeeps?

I bet you need a Code reader. Most auto parts stores will do it for you. Toyota phased out the reading without a tool when OBDII was put in.

I know you said you didn't want a scan tool, but...

A ScanGauge is super handy.... can read & reset codes super easy and it will also act as an additional gauge, telling you exactly what RPM, engine temp, intake air temp, etc, etc you're running at. Works for all OBDII vehicles and is easily interchanged.

I have one in my FZJ, to keep an eye on the coolant temp and the dismal MPG.

Dave, just run up to Checker O'Reily on 5th West just south of American Car Care. They will hand it to you and then you can scan it yourself.

I know a Lexus Tech and he said that you need a scanner. Try the Checker or Autozone.

Is it a check engine light or a service engine soon light? My folks have a GX and I have seen some strange codes come up for gas cap, needing an oil change, lame simple things like that.
