The middle of the page has power numbers for different years of the 4oh. The one in my 99 XJ runs a hell of a lot better and stronger than the one in my sisters 99 XJ. It all depends on the motor.(History, maintenence, some motors just run stronger.)

I like the new Wrangler. Id buy one if it had a V8, not the Hemi though.

I know compared to Cody's new ZJ, mine feels like it has more power....even with 3.55's compared to 4.56's.:greg:

Hmmmm..... I thought my '91 XJ didn't have the 'grunt' of my wifes '96 ZJ 4.0L. I wonder if it's more maintenance/individual motor characteristics of each engine.

Thats what I was getting at. I know mine responds very well to an oil change as well.

You have a good point. My assumption is only based on one newer vehicle. I forgot to take the different transmissions (both autos, clearly different though) into consideration. :)

I'm jumping on the bandwagon early. I like it. You've got the room of a cherokee but with a real frame and removable top. It's the closest thing to a first gen 4Runner DC has ever made, sweet! It does suck that the front axle is not included though.

114" wheel base... wow... thats longer than my rodeo after 4 inches of stretching (112")

My rodeo is 4 door as well. and I imagine it feels roomier than this 4 door jeep does.

Now that said... I like the idea... take the top off... go wheeling with the family.. Lotsa fun.

Just seems a little bit long and wanting to get hung up.

Admittedly, I'll be looking at one........ (makes more sense to have than a tow rig AND a Jeep for me) ......... I'm a little concerned about the engine at altitude. That thing can't be light how it sits. Outfit it with a lift, lockers and some 35"-37" tires and I've got everything I liked about the XJ, but with a frame and a warranty. Wonder if the 4.7 V8 or something will make it's way in there in the next few years?

They've 'redesigned' both axles, but I doubt the axles will hold up well if you went to 37" (which is where I'd like to go with that long of a wheelbase). I think the rear is a 'clean-sheet' D35 and it did look beefier (like that's difficult) and I thought they addressed something in the front axle as well.

I'll have to look at the pic again, but at first glance it looked like an IFS.

44's both ends....rear is not a "normal" 44, but 32 spline and larger diameter, not sure how much bigger, but bigger, I believe the carrier is different and the carrier bearings look bigger (would make sense with the bigger shafts)....Front arms are longer than the TJ, beefier. Frame resembles something more like a 3/4 ton truck.
Take the above with a grain of salt....I have no verification, proof, or knowledge....I am just talking out my a$$:p

Very hummer-like, I don't really care for the look, but I once said that about another Jeep we now own:p

I think it'll be a big seller for sure, but it's kinda like comparing a full sized Blazer to a TJ. If anything slows sales, it's going to be that engine. With the Fed's mandated corporate mileage rules, I'm afraid that engine will be the only option for a while.

I think DC mad a bad choice to drop the LJ as it was and instead offer this one as an addition to the line up. But then again, I'm sure hoping the resale on the LJ's goes sky high like it did on the Scramblers.
