10 bolt or D44

Is the ring and pinion in a 10 bolt and a 44 the same I've heard both answers.

No the 10 bolt is chevy corporate. On the solid axle 10 bolt and dana 44 generally everthing from the knuckles out is the same. The 10 bolt has a rounded cover and the Dana has a more octagon shape to it.

they are similar in size, BUT they are not the same.

I thought that everyone knew that putting a 10bolt ring gear together with a 44 pinion increases strenth 10%. Slight modification with a 9" grinder is nessesary.

dont put that the 10 bolt carrier in the d44 and vise versa. your only asking for trouble. the bearings might not work and the gear teeth may be cut slightly differiently.

I realize that everyone now thinks I am an idiot. Which is understandable considering I am the only one who didn't know that it was a joke. In defence when the guy gave me the ring and pinion he said it is a 10 bolt but it will fit your 44 cause they are the same. Obviously I should not have listened, but it was free, oh well.
