I couldn't find any valve stems locally so I figured to just keep working on the pile...

This all started 3 weeks ago while at the 'B' on the Buckhorn Trail. I got into a tight section and needed to turn around. The 6x8 flatbed does not permit easy negotiation so I had to make a 35 point turn. During this exercise in patience and pucker I heard a loud bang and the truck collapsed to the passenger side.

The right rear main leaf gave up the ghost, not bad for 24 years, 133,xxx miles, 6" shackles and long shocks!

I babied the truck home (God bless Toyota for military wrapped eyes) and gave Mike at Summit Machine a call for parts.

The suspension stuff arrived in 2 days and so began the work:

Thus far I've plated and boxed the rear of the frame, hung the rear springs, tacked on a super sweet, ultra powerful VW exhaust tip, plasma'd off all the front end junk, cut all the crap from F&R axles, removed steering and now need more time to get the axles cleaned up, spring and shock perches welded on and final welding for the rear.

I'm doing all of this in my Father-in-laws shop and he actually manned the plasma cutter for 2 hours straight last night...what a stud.

Here are some pictures of the Shop and additional parts for the '84 as well as his '89 4Runner project ( 5" SAS, 4.3, 700R4, duals, 5.29's, e-locker, lock-rite).

The plans for the '84 are:

3" TG lift
Marlin High Steer
V6 Radiator

Not much else for now, this was supposed to take place during the winter but the spring breakage was a sign to get it going now. I really love driving the truck for commuter duties so we are hustling it as much as we can.

Big thanks to my FIL, Rick (ricsrx on RME) for the shop space, knowledge, help and most important for just being around! --Yeah, I'm pretty lucky!:hickey:

I'm looking for impressions and opinions from others that have run the 3" TG lift. ( Or any of the LT kits; All-Pro, Marlin...)

How far forward did you mount the front hanger?

On/off road manners?

Anything you would have done differently?

I put on 3" TG springs up front right before selling the '85. I thought they settled really really fast. Also, we moved the axle forward an inch i think? To which it seemed abit wobbly after that, but i had also gone to smaller tires, and aluminum wheels... so the shimmy from the warped rotors was more prevelant ;)

looks good do far what are your plans for the tube work

At some point I'd like to tube the bed but because I like to commute with it I'll just narrow and bob the existing flatbed.

The 33"s do look small and the 30"s are babies...I still might roll the 30"s for DDing though:D

We drove it out of the shop tonight!

It still needs:
A front shaft
F&R shocks re-mounted and welded
Bed installed and re-wired

What are you guys using for a front shaft? Length? I'm 35" flange to flange.
Is there someone better than SixStates local?
