2002 Honda CRV TPS

Anyone know where it's located and why everything I am finding online is showing that it's a $1000 repair? I looked in the typical spot (throttle body) but didn't see anything that looked like the replacement part.

Anyone a Honda tech or something on here???

Wow $1000? I tried google and didn't find anything other than a recall notice on the TPS and an indication they are replacing the entire throttle body for that price.

Checker has the TPS for $96.99 online.

Here's the service bulletin notice:

Yeah, that's about all that I found as well. Not much online....

It's a friends car, already has the part, but I couldn't figure out even where the TPS is

TPS sensor on a CR-V is located behind the sheet metal. Try opening the doors (they are sheet metal), the hood, and the rear hatch to see if the TPS is lurking inside.

Honda designed the throttle position sensor on the bottom of the throttle body and with non-slotted heads on the two screws holding it to the tb. They want you to take it to the dealer and pay upwards of $1000 for a new tb just to replace a $30 part on most cars and trucks. Aha! I found a way around them. Still pricey, but the Acura RSX sites talk about this problem and there is an aftermarket TPS available from Import Auto Performance in Iowa (www.iapdirect.com). $149, but better than $1000. They also give some direction on installation. Worth calling them to make you feel better about tackling this job. You should be a descent backyard mechanics before doing this, but not a hard job. Taking the throttle body off is somewhat timely, disconnect vacuum hoses and electrical plugs (remember where the go). The hardest part was taking off the water lines to the tb. But you can do this. One the tb is off, the tps is on the back side. I took a good hack saw blade and make a single slot in each screw head. Take your time and make a deep and accurate slot. I then took a slotted screw driver and gentle unscrewed the two screws. Make sure your slots are deep, but not all the way through the heads or it could break off. The new tps comes with hex screws ( Honda should have done this in the first place). Put everything back and fire it up. You also need to replace the gasket where the throttle body meets the manifold. The dealer did have this for $16.

And the link it refers to on iapdirect:

Did you have your glasses on when you looked?

No. they got tiger stripe overspray on them from the enamal he was using on his F22 Stealth Hawk destroyer squadron fighter tango bravo model.

Everytime he looked around he thought he was being attacked by a freakin Tiger. This type of anxiety is killer when you have notoriously high blood pressure, thus the need to ditch the glasses.
