Easter weekend is nearly upon us, and I have been slacking at getting this started earlier. Once again the Potato Salad Hill (PSH) is going to be a major attraction for many during the Easter week. Unfortunately the area is small, gathers large crowds and has no facilities to accommodate those numbers. It also becomes an headache and eye sore for the Sheriffs office and the BLM who is responsible for the land. They are both watching and a little effort from us can save them a big headache and many complaints. Our focused efforts in that area really can go a long way with showing the groups that the rockcrawlers take land clean up and use serious.

In the past Jeff Knolls from pirate4x4 has headed up and organized the fund raising and cleanup of the PSH area. Last year he was not able to help so RME stepped up and did their part. Again this is on our shoulders, and gives us a chance to give a little back to the Moab area, and help keep this area open for all of us.

Last year RME members quickly raised over $1800 to pay for the dumpsters and port-a-potties for the entire week! We coordinated with the recycling center to get recycling bins in place, then emptied daily. We had several organized clean ups from members who were able to walk the area to pick up litter and have it taken care of. Our efforts were noticed and appreciated.
One positive example is the good comments we received from “The Solutions of Moab” a recycling center adjacent to the PSH area who takes a personal interest in the PSH area and works closely with the BLM and city council on the condition of PSH. Nearly a year later and they are still saying good things about RME and our efforts to be responsible. Those few hours spent went a long way for our cause!

This year I can only hope for the same. I would like to challenge you to help raise $2000 to fund this project. I would also like to challenge members who are in Moab those times to take a few minutes out of their vacation and walk the area to keep it clean. Over the next few days I can get a better schedule of clean up times and we can get those people organized.

Donations can be made via paypal to PSHcleanup@RockyMountainExtreme.com. All funds will go directly to the cleanup of the area, dumpsters and port-a-potties. Anything collected over the needed amount will be donated to the RR4W MUD fund which will be used to keep Moab trails open.

This is for a great cause and is a chance for us to show everybody that we really do care about Moab and want to keep it clean!

We (4 wheelers) get the bad reputation from the hundreds of people who come into town to watch the action and leave trash behind. Obviously we are not the ones responsible for it, but that's not the perception... so let's help fix it! I'll be donating my share of money and showing up to help this year.

If we exceed the needed amount, please keep donating! We will push the rest of the money to RR4W's MUD Fund! What is the MUD Fund? The MUD Fund is: "Multiple Use Defense fund (MUD) to help keep the trails open. It is funded by annual contributions from the club and donations from supporters."

We will have a donation progress bar up sometime tomorrow. :)

I see Kurt and Candace.....but I don't recognize the rest of the weirdo's :brett:

I will see if I can find the larger photo, but you will know more of them. You can pick out Big Sarge pretty easy. And in the photo with the black jeep that is Blacksheep and his nephew Ryan. Those two helped a ton last year.

I would like to try to work up a little of a schedule, just so we have a few people every day, and not everyone pile up on one day.

What is happening is every morning at 6 am (yes AM) the people from the recycling center is going over to pick up and sort the trash from the recycling.

I think that the evenings may work better than that early for most people. One small problem is that if the crowds get too large or too roudy (remember that kid who took a dive into the cement canal last year) the sherrifs office will close it down in the evenings. We should be able to get into PSH to clean after it is closed, but will need some special permission.

The other time that may work great is all durring the day when people are there. Just walk around with garbage or recycling bags picking up then.

What works best for you or would you rather help with?

You or anyone else. For me the evenings would work the best, so I assume that everyone is like me. :)

I don't think 6a.m. will work for me but I do like to wonder up there in the afternoons and check the place out. So when I go up there I will be sure to do a stroll around and pick up trash while I watch some of the crazy party people. I told the wife we were going to do that last night and she said great let's just plan on going up every afternoon before dinner and pick some s**t up. So if you see a long haired goofy ass red head with a little killer min pin dog picking up trash that will be me and the fam.

Hey! I'm not sure I saw that particular writeup. Thanks for the link! I'm not sure how much my nephew enjoyed picking up the trash, but he was always ready when I said it was time to go (despite the early hour!). I'll be doing the same for this trip out there. I plan on being there every morning monday through friday. We'll likely take off on friday morning after we check out the vendor displays.

I'll be renting a jeep this year and won't pick it up until tuesday morning, so I'll be out there with my little honda on monday, tuesday and friday. I hope that road is kind to my little car!

see you out there!
