disagree w/6pt cage for street stock rigs. Prohibitive.

now let's discuss. :D

agreed. especially for those using a pickup.

I agree that a cage should be HIGHLY recommended, but it may not be feasible for all participants. I know safety is the biggest concern, and needs to be addressed, maybe 6 point for everyone other than stock, then either a factory cage, factory roof, or a 4/6 point cage depending on vehicle type for stock class.

I would respectfully suggest that no stock class course will overwhelm the factory protection, or shouldn't, at any rate. Getting a 6pt. cage in a daily driver might be a real problem for a lot of people, and very difficult for guys in pickups.

Good points about the cage for pickups needing to be a 4 point. I don't want anybody getting hurt because of a not having a roll cage. An injury could shut the track down in addition to causing serious harm to a competitor. I have been in many rolls and have sustained injury even with proper equipment. A cage is needed for any kind of serious wheeling.

I agree with the need for a cage. How about a compromise, like 4 point cage for any vehicle with a steel roof and 6 point for any "open" tops?

I was thinking of entering my cherokee this year in the stock class but do not have a Cage. It looks like this year I can enter even thought it is HIGHLY Recommended but next year unless I have a cage I am out of luck. Is this correct? I do agree with saftey but stock class is fun because those of us without buggies can enter with our semi normal rigs. Most people wheeling with stock class vehicles do not have cages in them and do not plan on putting one in.

Keep in mind, the stock class can pick a more difficult route anytime they choose to, so keeping the routes easy won't necessarily guarantee a safe run.

I'm not arguing against cages, at all, in fact, I think they are a great idea, and a cage was the next upgrade I had planned for the Blazer-- but I AM saying that as I understood it, the OSRC's Stock Class was intended to attract the Average Joe, guy with a rig who might want to try some rockcrawling. In my opinion, a lot of that group WILL NOT have a cage, now or ever, and therefore will not enter. And that's cool too, if that's how it ends up going... I'm just sayin'.

After watching Sparticus roll that Runner and cave in the A-pillar, I thought "gosh, cages are so smart", but I also understand that it is a considerable expense and hassle to get a cage into a daily driver.

As always, it's not my deal and I will abide by whatever is decided. :D I love this event and REALLY hope I can get down there to help out.

Then change that rule, and eliminate the option. Voila.

Noooooo just make people have cages!!! If you are in a rock crawl COMPETITION you are probably not the average joe, you probably have a good amount of $$ into your rig.. Time to budget for a cage... That should be the first upgrade on any rock crawler. Im all for guys with out high dollar rigs competing but low dollar/average rigs need to be safe too a simple roll cage isnt a high dollar expense, it could maybe cost you less than a good locker. I do think for this event, trucks equipt with a factory roll bar should be ok, like a jeep for example. I say simple 4 point roll bar/cage minimum. My roll cages have saved my life plenty of times. Go get one.... Sheesh...

I agree, it should be the first upgrade on a ROCKCRAWLER, but the stock class is for TRAIL RIGS. :D A proper cage in say, an XJ, even a 4pt, is a b*tch to fit in there.

XJ are bigger inside than early yoters... just sayin' I've built both.

the first time we did OSRC in stock class we built a cage for the 85 runner we competed in... on 31's... I think it's a completely doable rule and isn't cost prohibitive when you figure a decent cage is similar in cost to a decent set of new tires.

Thank you for clarifying that you receive gate bonuses even if the obstacle was not completed, I know there were varying opinions on that last year.
