24V Charging

This is really more related to my boat than offroading... I have a dual battery set up in my boat. I would like to be able to have my starting battery and a 24v system for the trolling motor. My question is, with the switch I have installed can I switch from battery 1, single 12v battery to battery 2, 24v batteries so the alternator can charge the trolling batteries while I'm underway?

You can buy a module that will take care of the charging for you but if I remember correctly they aren't cheap. If you have two batteries where one battery is used for the gas motor and the second battery is hooked in series with the first one for the 24 volt troller you can do what you want with a multi rank switch that takes the second battery and hooks it in parallel with the main battery and disconnects the series connection. On my boat I have three batteries, one for the starter on the main motor and two more that run the electric trolling motor. I also have a 9HP gas trolling motor that has electric start and I have it connected to one of the big electric trolling motor batteries so it can charge them while I am trolling with the gas trolling motor. It works fine and if I were to add one switch I could charge either one.
