Anybody run these yet? They're CHEAP for a 38x14.50 mud terrain!
I'm considering getting set for my JK Rubicon Unlimited, and squeezing them on to about 4.5" of lift, with 5.38 gears.
I'm also looking for people's thoughts on the durability of the drive train. The Jeep will be wheeled, and even on more challenging trails such as Golden Spike and Behind the Rocks. But, I'm pretty easy on the skinny pedal and try to avoid wheel spin on hard surfaces. It's my "company sponsored" work vehicle, so I can't beat it up too much.
I've only ever "broken" one u-joint. It was on a TJ D30 running 34x10.50x15 Swamper LTB's, on the first hard climb on Behind the Rocks in Moab. I think the ears on the shaft flexed and caused the cap to come loose and crack. The joint was otherwise intact.
All this being said, I've never run bigger than a 35" tire, or anything bigger than a 297x joint. I'm assuming the JK's run the same joint as all the D30/D44 axles around. I'm open to the idea of getting some beefier joints and/or alloy shafts if necessary. But if the stock stuff will hold up to mild wheeling on 38" tires I'd be happy to run that too (and keep the $1200 or so for other fun things).
I don't need 38's. I have just always wanted to try bigger tires, and JK's can fit big meats with minimal lift. (The fact that the company is paying for the gas is a big plus too!!) This lift will be 80% for show, and 20% for off road capability.
