Alright, I have a question for the Toyota people. I've got a 93' 4Runner with the crap 6cyl and want to know what years can I take from to replace it with the 4 cyl. ??? Are some years incompatable? Would I just need exhaust, engine mounts and computer??? Is it a lot tougher than this? Do the 4Runners take any chevy applications easier than the 4cyl. Or would it be easiest to just find a 95' Toyota V6(the good one)? Trying to keep it cheap. Thanks for any help on this.

Is it an automatic or standard tranny? I think if I was going to go to the trouble to swap a different engine in I would go with a 4.3 Vortec. Probably no more work than swapping a 4 cyl. 22RE. Since the 22RE was available in the 'runners from '90-'95 you should be able to swap on from any of those years in. '85-'89 22RE's should swap in also I think, but I'm not 100% sure. My wife drives a '91 4Runner with the 3.0 V6 in it - I'm thinking when it goes I might try a VW TDI diesel engine swap. I've read a little about it and it seems like a pretty sweet way to go, but probably not the most cost effective either. Maybe look at an aluminum V-8 out of a Lexus also - I've heard that people have swapped those in as well.

I have the auto, but would switch out the trans if I needed too. Both would be o.k. I was thinking I may go with the Toyota 3.4 from the newer years. But if the 4.3 CHevy is just as easy, then that would be a cheaper engine. What to do?
