Does anyone know anyone locally that sells straight 50W motor oil?

Also does anyone Locally carry GM EOS assembly lubricant ? I need some Zinc for tappet valves HEHE or any other good Zinc additive for those old Flat Tappet valves?

I have looked and called around a few places but no-one knows what I am even talking about :ugh: (My computer doesn't show 50W motor oil for your scout.. I have never heard of Assembly lube... what is the zinc for anyhow) bla bla bla bla)

Does Quality have any??

I know Checker has assembly lube. And I have a tube, if I can find it. Noooot sure about the zinc content... but from what I understand modern assembly lube is good to go. *shrug*

AHA.. after changing my search criteria I found something that will work.. 1400PPM of Zinc and the rest is just for fun Mel Lube and I can get it local.. a half quart to every Oil change should add enough Zinc to protect those Tappet Valves :)..

now on to 50W motor oil (Non API if possible).. need some tranny fluid

Are you planning on only driving in the summer? If you plan on driving in the winter I would recommend against straight 50W-even in an SV.

This is for use in the transmission of a 62 scout 80..Engine gets 10W30 with a Zinc additive for the Tappet valves :) the best lube for a T19 or T18 transmission and most older Manual transmissions is HD 50W motor oil..

Manual transmissions, and transfer cases require lighter oil for lubrication because they have less clearance between major parts, such as synchronizers, gears & shafts, etc. Heavier gear oil cannot provide adequate lubrication between gears and shafts since it will not flow thru small passages, or tight clearances. Gear oils can also make shifting difficult, or impossible in cold temperatures. Gear oils with EP additives are especially bad when used in transmissions because the EP additives can plug passages that the lubricant has to flow thru, and can also build up on other parts such as synchronizers, and oil seals, causing early failure.
40W would be fine as well but with the older Tranny something a little thicker may help it a bit.

If you haven't already found it, I'd bet Jensen Oil would be able to help you out.

Carquest has straight 50W. It is their in-house brand that I believe is made by valvoline. I bought mine from the one off of 2100st south and300E. CQ seems to be the last of the real parts stores.

Run delvac 15-40 diesel oil, it has the minium amount of zddp....at your local sprawl mart...Tim

I had thought of that but unfortunately if it is at all cold the starter won't even turn something that thick :(..

you should also be able to find straight 50w oil in the farm supply stores

I have tried IFA, Cal ranch even Flying J didn't have any

You are correct. Sorry for the assumption. I am too lazy to find straight 50 W so I am just running the same 15-50 rotella as in the 345.

you know 15-50 Rotella wouldn't be a bad way to go in the trans.. a little nicer when it is cold plus it has a bit more zinc in it to help out with shifting... and it is a little more common than straight 50W -_-

I get 50W from the carquest in PG, and I think I've seen it at other standard parts stores such as NAPA and checker. To get it in bulk (since you need a few quarts), you can get it at an oil place (what's that place in AF on state and 5th??) or Cal Ranch.
