700R4

So, I blew the TF999 tanny in the CJ7 the other day and now I'm thinking of doing what I have wanted to do since I bought this jeep. I'm going to do the 350 swap and with the gears that I have would like to add a four speed auto. I have kind of looked into doing a 700R4 swap, and have read that there are good years and bad years of these tranny's. For those of you that have any advice, I would love to heard it.

Thanks,

Thanks for the link Gravy, I looked at it for a second, busy day :D and will look closer at it later. Maybe this is in the link, but when looking for a K case is there a date range and vehicle type to look for? I will be adapting this R4 to a Dana 300. Thanks for making my life easier in finding what I need, unless you happen to have one laying around :)

I think the K-cases are all setup the same to go to the D300. (I have that setup---wish I'd have bought an Atlas instead but...) The "early" 700 (I think they were '82-85?) are a little weaker than the '86-'92 setups. I don't think it's a case issue though as I think the rebuild kits are all the same. They were some suspect bearings in the early transmissions that overheated and spun in the case. I think the fix is to use '86-up rebuild kit? (not a trans guy but stayed at a Holiday Inn Express a couple weeks ago)

The spline count on the 300 is 23 and the 700r4 is 27 so you will need to change one or the other. Most change the t case.

I have running that 700r4 for a long while now, it works well. A little lower first. 3.06 vs. 2.52 in the th350 and the over drive is nice.
