Anyone know what engines came in 79 Broncos? Found a used on that could be fun that the seller doesn't know as much about as I would like....(gotta love e-bay!)

look on the inside of the door or look into a HAYNES OR CHILTON manual and use the vin number

I don't remember a 302 being available in 79. It's probably either a 351M or a 400M. Neither is the greatest engine, but they do work.

Should be on the sticker, on the left valve cover if it's still there. I think the seller is playing with ya, I'm a Chevy guy and know that. :D

From what I have seen most 400's came with auto's and most 351M's came with the T-18 4 speed. I'm sure this wasn't always the case, but its what I've seen.

He figures that it is the 351, saying that was all that came in the 79. I'll lean on him to figure it out with the vin, or look elsewhere for a truck. I am not real comfotable with a long distance purchase anyway, unless it comes real cheap.

Houndoc, Rick is right, no 302 and probably a 351M or 400. Here is some information for you:

"1978: The Bronco was offered with a 351M or 400 V-8 engine. Both engines had a 2 bbl carb, a T-18 granny first gear 4 spd manual was standard while 3 spd automatic transmission was optional. The transfer case had a 2 Speed w/1.92 low range ratio. Rear axle was the Ford 9" while front was the Dana 44. Front disc brakes were now standard. Round headlights were standard, while square headlights came with the XLT option package.

1979: Square headlights and emissions control equipment, specifically an air pump, vapor canister and a catalytic converter became standard."
