I learned a couple of things this last week about old chevy trucks. My 85 K30 sprung a gas tank leak during the summer and I lost a whole tank of premium. I figured with the towing/boating season coming up that I needed to fix it so it can tow my boat to the gorge. I bought another tank off a guy on KSL only to find when I got it home that it too had a rust hole leak. I then bought another tank from a diesel version of the same truck. After getting it all installed my wife drove it and came back and said gas was leaking out again. I couldn't believe that the second tank was bad and on closer inspection it was spitting gas out of the vent. After taking it out again I discovered that the diesel sending unit is not the same as the gas one. What is the vent on the gas unit is the return line on the diesel. So even though the tank didn't have much in it the pressure inside the tank forced gas out from the bottom of the tank and out the vent.
The last lesson I learned is don't let your kid talk you into a 3" Flowmaster dual exhaust system for your big block. It sounds cool but I think I will be setting off car alarms when I drive by.
