87 Toyota reg cab SAS'D

I'm in need of everyones opinon I have a toyota that I want to sas. I don't know what route to go leafs or coils with control arms? Is there a reason no one does coils? This will be my first build so I would like to get a kit with all the brackets and everything. What do you guys suggest I do for a front axle. Please help thanks Jesse

Coils require bit more thinking-- leafs are much easier than working out links and track bars and all that. And if you're doing a custom deal, spring rates need to be worked out too.

Go with a leaf kit.
The coilovers and links work well but leafs are proven, reliable and far less expensive and have great articulation.

Your '87 is one step ahead because it already has the desirable 3" wider rear axle, you will need a front axle from a 79-85 Truck or '85 4Runner.

I have an All Pro kit on my 94 regular cab and it does just fine. And just run 1.5" spacers on your front axle so you match the width of your wider rear.

IMO the high-quality leafs ride quite well. My old 4Runner had All-Pro springs F & R and rode very well, better than most new vehicles. It also had plenty of wheel travel offroad, it was a good setup.

I know I'm new here, and no one knows me but I build alot of toyotas. since you have never done this before I say buy the kit, their all about the same, I personaly favor Marlin. we are using stock fullsize wagoneer front springs, 7 leaves. it's just a bit longer than a stock toyota and LOTS OF FLEX. the spring is flat so it won't lift the front too high in the air. it's an easy job, should be a weakend project. the high stear kit is needed. we often use the ford shocktowers if they don't come with the kit you buy. good luck and enjoy your build.

I like having leafs on the front of my crawler. I run allpro leafs up front and coils in the rear and this works out real good. It is very stable on the rocks and it still has a soft ride with plenty of flex. You can click on my picture and see the flex it works out nice.
