I have a 91 wrangler with a springover +1.5 inch springs and 35in tires do you think I should run a hp9'' or D44 in the rear

You're all WEAK SAUCE!
either one is good. the hp 9 inch is stronger, but will cost you ten times as much. You can find a good dana 44 for a hundred bucks no problem. For a yj, I think the ford 8.8 is a great choice. It will match the lug pattern of the dana 30, it will only cost three or four hundred dollars, you can find one to match your stock gearing, and you'll get rear disks out of it.

I would only run a HP 9" IF it was a true HP9...not a currie setup, it uses the 8.8 gears so you will be no stronger than an 8.8...which, as mentioned earlier, can be done for quite a bit less ($300-$500). However, given the choices I would do as mbryson said, D44s from an 80s waggy (not a vaccum disco front though, which was some 83s and most 84s). D44s are a great axle that you can find cheap and parts are cheap too. Plus you have a huge selection or aftermarket parts for it.

i have waggy 44s f/r and they have worked great for me. as far as axle swaps go, it is not much harder to just swap both axles and you will be much happier in the long run.

sye is definitely a necessity on a yj, good point.

9"s are cool, i wouldn't mind having a 9" and a hp44 at all.

what is SYE?

Slip yoke eliminator....for the tcase. Allows for a longer driveline with a cv joint in it.

A low pinion 9" is not even an option with the hieght and angle of the driveline you will have with your set up. The low pinion 44 is even pushing it.

actually I ran a LP 9" on my wrangler with both 6" SUA and 2.5" SOA...it may not have been ideal but it worked and I had no problems...:D
